Overview

The Dean’s Office is the central administrative unit that provides leadership to Cummings School of Veterinary Medicine. Cummings School provides DVM, master’s, and PhD degrees, with a total student body of 450 and plans to increase to 750. We operate 6 hospitals and clinics and over diagnostic services providing veterinary care to over 100,000 patients and training ~75 house officers each year. We have internationally recognized research programs in animal and human health, comparative biomedical research, clinical research, infectious disease, and global health, with annual research funding of $12 – 15 million. The school has approximately 115 faculty members, 400 employees, and 450 students. We are located on a 600-acre campus in the municipality of Grafton, 35 miles from Boston, MA. We are embarking on an ambitious plan to expand our learning, clinical, and research infrastructure and increase the size and breadth of our academic offerings.


What You'll Do

  • Serves as a senior advisor to the dean with responsibility for managing the strategic planning and implementation process
  • Responsible for driving completion of strategic plans across its education, research, clinical, and community service missions, and addressing fiscal planning and sustainability, infrastructure and campus planning, and employee and student well-being and sustainability, in order to meet the long-range needs and goals of the school and its stakeholders
  • Oversees a portfolio of key school projects, addressing the flow of issues and ensuring completion and integration in accordance with the multi-year strategic plan
  • Works with the Cummings leadership team and staff, university and external stakeholders to direct, administer and coordinate the strategic planning process and strategy implementation
  • Ensures strategic goals are designed and documented. Manages the development of project plans aligned with associated strategic objectives
  • Develops project planning standards, determining resource and schedule requirements to deliver strategy results. Ensures a process to allocate budget and human resources to the project initiatives, including managing dependencies between strategic resources
  • Designs, advances, and manages standards and tools for project portfolio to deliver projects within scope, on time, and according to planned budget. Develops and manages strategy/project change control processes


What We're Looking For

Basic Requirements:

  • Knowledge and skills as typically acquired through completion of bachelor’s degree and 15 years of related experience
  • Demonstrated experience with strategic level planning and with managing complex project portfolios
  • Experience with planning, projecting, and managing complex budgets and managing facility projects
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to work with varied stakeholders and to facilitate consensus on critical issues; communication skills with demonstrated ability to persuade and negotiate
  • Demonstrated ability to problem-solve and gain confidence of colleagues; to identify trends and see opportunities; to be stimulated by difficulties and gain satisfaction from analysis and development of strategy for creative responses.
  • Proficiency with project management tools and MS Office applications
  • Campus planning and facilities experience.
  • Experience in academic and/or clinical environments is considered an asset
