This Research Support Specialist, a lab-based position in ischemic neuroprotection is available immediately in the laboratory of Dr. Marc Halterman (Professor, Department of Neurology). Studies involve the development of neuroprotective therapies to limit reperfusion injury, hemorrhagic transformation, and systemic inflammation induced following ischemic stroke. Themes emphasized in this project include mechanisms of ischemia-reperfusion injury, vascular biology, and interventions to limit systemic innate immune activation.

SUPERVISION AND DIRECTION EXERCISED: The hire may assist graduate students on specific technical tasks and provide instruction and guidance to undergraduate students.

SUPERVISION AND DIRECTION RECEIVED: Under the direct supervision of Marc Halterman, MD, PhD. Support also provided by staff scientist position.

TECHNICAL EQUIPMENT USED: Studies will include molecular and cellular techniques (multi-well assays, cell culture, live cell microscopy), mouse models of cerebral ischemia, standard assays of immune function (flow cytometry, ELISA), genomics (PCR, qPCR, sequencing, cloning), protein expression and function (Western blotting, enzymatic assays), and tissue characterization (immunohistochemistry).
