Position Summary

The Department of Microbiology and Immunology at the University at Buffalo is hiring a Research Technician 1.

Under close supervision of Principal Investigator, the candidate will:
    • Conduct a variety of routine experiments following established procedures and protocols, which may include performing assays, tissue culture, electrophoresis, PCR, DNA extraction, microscopy, animal work and other laboratory techniques.
    • The technician will also record test results, maintain laboratory equipment and supplies, and monitor animal colonies.
    • The candidate will provide technical assistance to postdocs/graduate students and other research staff within the group.
    • The candidate will assist in the execution of small animal (mouse) handling and surgeries and participate in executing experiments involving cellular and molecular biology assays.
    • He/she will be involved in the management and care of the animal colony.
    • Other duties involve the maintenance of lab equipment, preparing stock solutions and placing various orders based on lab needs.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science in Microbiology or a related field, and one year of experience directly related to the research or the program.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior experience working with rodents
  • Self-motivated and ability to work independently and collaborate within a team, time-management and organizational skills, strong communication skills

Physical Demands

Salary Range
$35,000 - $40,000
