JOB DESCRIPTION SUMMARY
The Massachusetts Academy of Math and Science (Mass Academy) is seeking a Mathematics Teacher. This position will involve daily interaction with other faculty, as well as direct student instruction. The position provides the opportunity to work in a highly collaborative environment and to teach in an advanced secondary school setting that emphasizes project-based, interdisciplinary learning.

This is a temporary, one-year employment opportunity.

JOB DESCRIPTION

  • Teach mathematics (Math Modeling) to an academically diverse range of 11th grade students; some students have previously completed through Geometry or Algebra II and some students have previously completed AP Calculus
  • Engage students in team project-based learning experiences as part of the Math Modeling curriculum, specifically the High School Modeling Contest for Mathematics (HiMCM) and Modeling the Future Challenge, providing frequent check-ins and feedback
    opportunity to work in a highly collaborative environment and to teach in an advanced secondary school setting that emphasizes project-based, interdisciplinary learning.

    This is a temporary, one-year employment opportunity.
  • Differentiate instruction to provide a rigorous program for all students
  • Provide students with authentic, targeted, and individualized feedback through self-assessments and conferencing
  • Coordinate accelerated placement at WPI for juniors who are eligible to take Calculus III/IV; supervise and monitor students' progress
  • Coordinate math contests throughout the year as well as advise the math team
  • Serve as a faculty advisor for a group of approximately 10 students
  • Maintain up-to-date curriculum documents for the math modeling course
  • Mentor and advise students in research projects
  • Actively participate in the annual recruitment events, orientation, open house, graduation, and other Mass Academy events
  • Actively participate in faculty meetings and on committees
  • Serve as a member of the admissions committee
  • Effectively communicate with parents, WPI faculty, and community partners
  • Other duties as assigned



Additional responsibilities include offering extracurricular courses in various interest areas, advising students with college essays and resumes, working with community partners, and seeking opportunities to showcase student work.

Bachelor's degree required, master's degree or beyond preferred. Massachusetts DESE licensure, or the ability to meet the licensure requirements, required.

Qualified candidates will have a strong background in teaching mathematics and demonstrate a passion for teaching all learners through a culturally responsive lens. Ability to work collaboratively required.

Experience working with high school students preferred. Experience mentoring and/or teaching students from diverse backgrounds preferred. Ideal candidates will embody Mass Academy's mission and core values.
