For nearly a century, Berkeley's Department of Psychology has been a national and international leader in psychological research and the superior educational programs that we have provided to undergraduates and doctoral students.
Today, our award winning faculty conduct ground-breaking research in many areas of psychology, including behavioral and systems neuroscience, clinical science, cognition, cognitive neuroscience, development, social, and personality. Our PhD students go on to exciting careers in academia (e.g. Yale, Stanford, UCLA), industry (e.g., Facebook, Google), healthcare (e.g., Oakland Children's Hospital, Seattle VA) and policy (e.g., National Institute of Justice).
- Schedule and run experiments with adult human subjects, including those who are highly vulnerable (E.g., have made a recent suicide attempt).
- Use lab computers and software to present experimental stimuli and procedures, perform basic data analysis, manage, store and protect data.
- Serve as work lead for student researchers and provide training in the performance of experiments and lab procedures.
- Assist with subject recruitment and community relations.
- Assist with campus human subject protocol requirements.
- Assist with preparation and submission of Institution Review Board (IRB) materials and basic aspects of grant applications.
- Assist with preparation of work for conference poster presentation and with figures for paper publication
- Order supplies and equipment, including computing equipment.
- Coordinate reimbursements for lab personnel.
- Update website for PI/lab.
- May install software.
- Bachelor's degree in Psychology or equivalent combination of experience and training.
- Previous academic research experience working with adult human subjects in mental health research or clinical settings with exposure to and/or training in diagnostic interviewing and psychophysiological assessment.
- Undergraduate course work in Psychology with emphasis in behavioral studies and exposure to ethical principles in conducting psychological research.
- Must have knowledge of data management principles or ability to learn.
- Ability with standard software (Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, databases).
- Must have experience with graphics software such as ADOBE or ability to learn.
- Must have experience with or ability to learn basic computer programming and HTML and simple networking.
- Ability to handle fluctuating priorities and deadlines.
- Must be organized, responsible, punctual, with ability to pay close attention to details.
- Strong interpersonal skills and proven leadership abilities.
- Excellent verbal and written communication abilities.
- Additional experience conducting research with or interviewing vulnerable populations or those with mental illness is preferred.
- Experience working with software packages used in collecting and processing experimental data such as Matlab, SPSS and EPRIME is preferred.
Salary & Benefits
This position is a non-exempt, bi-weekly paid position. Hourly pay for this role is commensurate with experience within the range of $22.0025.06 (steps 17)
