In this role you must possess basic knowledge of mechanical equipment used in building HVAC and refrigeration systems and demonstrate proficiency in the safe use of hand and power tools. Candidates must be able to assist with the installation, repair and constructions tasks in the mechanical, building, motor equipment, HVAC, refrigeration and electrical trades. Will assist journey-level trades diagnose, troubleshoot and repair control systems for all types of coolers, refrigerators, freezers, air conditioning units and systems, humidifiers, compressors, ventilators, cooling towers and other similar and related equipment; and in the completion of complex projects and installations. They may function as a lead worker over Maintenance Helpers or Laborers. Candidate must have the ability to stand, bend, stoop, sit, twist, and work at elevated heights using ladders and scaffolds and restricted access areas such as air handling units for extended periods of time. Candidates must detail their qualifications and submit appropriate documentation with their application. Candidates must be able to explain and demonstrate their skills and competency for this position; must communicate well with other employees and customers; must possess and have demonstrated positive customer service skills; must be able to understand and follow written and oral instructions. Since the activities of other employees depend upon the availability of the employee in this position, reliable attendance is a factor that will be considered when filling this vacancy. Appointees will be required to have a valid license to operate a motor vehicle in NYS or otherwise demonstrate their capacity to meet the transportation needs of the job.
