Departmental Overview
The Institute of Tranportation Studies (ITS) ITS develops and tests leading-edge innovations influencing the movement of people and goods, while advancing sustainability, economic health, and quality of life.
The Data Analytics Lead applies data analytics in support of a climate and urban health research study and would be part of a large, multi-site, research group involving several institutions across the United States and Latin America. This position involves gathering, merging, analyzing, and interpreting a wide variety of research data related to the SALURBAL project. Designs and conducts research including selecting data, developing research measures, analyzing collected information according to established statistical methods, and developing recommendations based on research findings. Prepares reports and manuscripts, charts, tables, figures, and other visual aids to interpret and communicate data and results.
This is a 100% FTE, 2-year contract position with the possibility of extension for 1 year (as per funding).

Responsibilities
20% - Supports day to day research and data analytic functions of Berkeley researchers in the SALURBAL project including reporting of progress on data processing and updating, summarization, and quality.
15% - Maintains and develops the built environment and natural environment data from the SALURBAL climate and environment core, and its related metadata, as per https://drexel.edu/lac/salurbal/overview/
15% - Assists higher other team members in the planning and execution of parts of studies related to health impact quantification, including facilitating the data, merging the data with health outcome data, providing preliminary analyses, and providing written description of the methods followed in creating/processing the data and in summarizing it, as appropriate.
10% - Conducts statistical studies in support of research proposals and protocols for the SALURBAL project. This includes running code related to summary statistics, multilevel models, and distributed non-linear lag models. Existing code and biostatistical support exists -- the position adapts and executes the code as per the application being considered.
10% - Collaborates on the design, documentation, testing and implementation of manuscripts around urban health and climate change in support of project aims. In partnership with stakeholders, leverage and expand the exceptional SALURBAL data resource encompassing nearly 400 cities across 11 countries to identify impacts of climate change on health and equity
10% - Prepares reports and / or analyses for the SALURBAL project related to data and associations between health and climate.
10% - May be involved in researching, evaluating and selecting new urban, natural, and climate hazard data sources consistent with SALURBAL's mission. For a catalogue of existing data see: https://data.lacurbanhealth.org/
10% - Assists in developing systems for organizing urban, natural, and climate hazard data data (storage, backup) to support analyses related to manuscripts by others. Responds to questions about the data and its metadata.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training.
- Working knowledge of quantifying urban form and conducting multilevel individual and ecological analyses.
- Working skills in statistical analysis, including R and Python, and data security measures.
- Working skills in analysis and consultation in a team environment across multiple countries and cultures in Latin America.
- Skills to communicate complex information in a clear and concise manner both verbally and in writing.
- Skills in spatial analysis and management of complex data. A desire to work with large spatial datasets, especially with geographic information systems (GIS) and/or Google Earth Engine.
- Working knowledge on the use of GitHub as a data and code repository.

Under California law, the University of California, Berkeley is required to provide a reasonable estimate of the compensation range for this role and should not offer a salary outside of the range posted in this job announcement. This range takes into account the wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, analysis of internal equity, and other business and organizational needs. It is not typical for an individual to be offered a salary at or near the top of the range for a position. Salary offers are determined based on final candidate qualifications and experience.
The budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position is $34.77 to $47.89 hourly. This is a 100% FTE, 2-year contract position eligible for benefits. This position is FLSA Non-exempt and paid biweekly.
