The Center for Teaching and Learning (CTL) serves as the campuswide nexus for supporting and engaging ladder and non-ladder faculty in efforts to enhance teaching and learning excellence and innovation. The CTL partners with the Colleges and Schools, with the Academic Senate, and with other academic support units that contribute to the instructional mission of the campus. It also engages with a wide network of faculty leaders in promoting excellence and innovation in teaching and learning through its support for the Distinguished Teaching Award, the Teaching Excellence Colloquium for faculty new to Berkeley, the Presidential Chair Fellows Curriculum Enrichment Grant Program, and the Lecturer Teaching Fellows. The CTL is housed in the Research, Teaching and Learning (RTL) organization under the Division of Undergraduate Education and reports to the Executive Director of RTL.

Faculty Development Consultation and Programming
Digital Pedagogy Collaboration, Facilitation, Dissemination
- Apply advanced pedagogical expertise, faculty development concepts and knowledge of campus strategic objectives to identify needs and to design, implement, and assess programming and services for ladder and non-ladder faculty across all disciplines and at all stages of career development to improve teaching and learning outcomes
- Work collaboratively and effectively in a diverse environment with relevant senior faculty, administrators, deans and department chairs, staff colleagues, and other academic support units to identify and to address campus-wide faculty development needs related to digital learning, where analysis of situations requires an in-depth evaluation and understanding of pedagogy theory and practice, the campus academic culture and existing teaching and learning strategies and objectives
- Provide direct consultation and classroom observation to faculty to support design of syllabi, determine appropriate methods for delivery of course content, including effective use of technology, and to address common classroom challenges
- Cultivate contacts with ladder and non-ladder faculty engaged in innovative use of technology to enhance learning.
- May provide professional development guidance to other staff members, other campus units and/or project team participants.
Professional Development and Other Duties
- Collaborate with Digital Learning Services and Educational Technology Services in complementary efforts which support the Digital Learning Initiative.
- Critically consider digital tools and resources for application to teaching and learning, where appropriate, in support of student learning outcomes.
- Apply such tools and resources effectively across a broad spectrum of course experiences and modalities.
- Effectively consider elements of course design and technology, such as outcomes specification, instructional delivery, facilitation, and student engagement.
- Identify innovative ways to effectively assess learning in online and hybrid learning environments. Fosters appropriate use of technology for timely feedback for students and for instructional improvement.
- Cultivate contacts with ladder and non-ladder faculty engaged in using technology to enhance learning and actively work to identify and disseminate the most successful practices.
- Develop resources (e.g., video exemplars, templates, guides) and utilize appropriate technology platforms to disseminate information to enhance the teaching and learning environment often in partnership with other campus academic support units.
- Develop and facilitate faculty programs or communities focused on digital pedagogy broadly and on targeted areas of interest within sub-groups (e.g., department or discipline) of faculty.
- Support ways in which technology and instructional approaches can enable equity and inclusion.
- Emphasize equitable access to digital resources for learning.
- Take initiative to develop professionally, through participation in professional communities, by attending conferences and workshops, and by keeping abreast of professional literature related to teaching and learning in higher education.
- Perform other duties upon request.
- Experience with curriculum/instructional design, educational research, and/or faculty development facilitation at the university level.
- Advanced ability to conduct analysis, develop recommendations, and solve problems.
- Deep knowledge of the science of learning, curriculum design, and concepts in pedagogy and faculty development.
- Knowledgeable about current and emerging trends, issues, and best practices in faculty development, including effective practices for digital learning.
- Advanced understanding of the academic culture of a public research university, and the ways in which this position can enhance a teaching culture within a public/research university.
- Superior verbal and written communication, excellent interpersonal skills, and advanced facilitation skills.
- Proven ability to handle sensitive and/or confidential situations with diplomacy and tact.
- Demonstrated experience designing effective digital learning activities and assisting faculty who are transitioning to digital learning strategies or modalities.
- Deep knowledge of strategies for equity and inclusion.
- Advanced degree in a related area or equivalent combination of experience and education.
Salary & Benefits
Hiring Range: $90,000 - $105,000 annually. Commensurate with experience.
