Departmental Overview

Under the general supervision of the Assistant Director of Social Services, Social Services (SOS) strives to support the academic mission of the University by assisting students in maintaining a positive physical, psychological, and social well-being while they pursue their studies. Social Services is a counseling unit of Student Mental Health and Social Services staff utilize a range of treatment modalities and supportive approaches to help students find ways to manage medical, academic, legal, financial, social/relationship and identity issues. Using a multicultural and social justice orientation, our diverse staff focus on the whole person including social, emotional and environmental factors that contribute to a students' ability to successfully move through the university and acquire the diverse skills that enable one to problem-solve and manage life-long issues. This includes addressing basic needs challenges that may impede a student's functioning.

Responsibilities

Clinical Care & Case Management

• Under general supervision, performs assessment, diagnosis, psychotherapy, and case management specific to the needs of students, including high risk situations related to eating disorders, various experiences with trauma, resource linkage, and other needs specific to the identified treatment plan for students.
• Provides brief counseling, crisis assessment and intervention, and group counseling.

Community Liaisonship & Resource Development

• Establish and maintain liaison relationships with community and campus agencies/units.
• Provides consultation to faculty and staff and support. Help families address basic needs concerns.
• Liaison with police and other campus authorities to ensure appropriate safety measures are in place. Maintain appropriate confidentiality based on HIPAA standards (UHS practice) when consulting and being a liaison with campus offices.
• Develop psychoeducational programming and materials for Eating Disorder groups and counseling interventions.
• Provides training and outreach to campus on specific areas of expertise.
• Assists with grant-writing and grant management as needed.

Documentation & Other Duties

• Complete all professional tasks including charting, and adhering to UHS policies and procedures.
• Participates in the supervision of Post-MSW Fellows or masters-level interns when their fellowship/traineeship relates to Eating disorders or community mental health. This may include seminar leadership.
• Other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

Education

• Masters in Social Work.

Licenses and Certifications

• California State Licensure (current and in good standing)

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

• Knowledge necessary to provide thorough evaluation, intervention and comprehensive clinical social work practice. Knowledge of relationship and family dynamics including intimate partner violence and parenting issues. Advanced knowledge of and experience with multicultural concepts and applications and of college health/mental health concerns. Ability to apply legal, ethical and professional standards for the field of social work. Demonstrated effectiveness working with situations of crisis.
• Advanced knowledge of mental health concerns with a particular focus on eating disorders, other trauma, co-occurring substance abuse and health conditions.
• Advanced individual counseling skills including assessment, psychotherapy, and case management.
• Comprehension of group dynamics, facilitation of groups and problem solving.
• Working knowledge of college developmental and mental health issues including dual diagnoses.
• Effective verbal and presentation skills, computer literacy.
• Supervision skills, including a working knowledge of BBS requirements for pre-licensed clinicians.
• Demonstrated experience providing culturally-relevant counseling services, supported by a social justice lens, to communities that have been underserved.
• Demonstrated experience supporting and working with people from diverse ethnic, cultural, religious, socio-economic, sexual orientation, and gender identities and backgrounds in a multicultural college environment.
• Advanced knowledge of community mental health practice including care management, advocacy, systems navigation, impact of basic needs insecurity.
• Working knowledge of applicable laws and standards of professional conduct.
• Demonstrated expertise working independently and as a collaborative team member with diverse client groups, medical and mental health staff, campus and community partners.
• Demonstrated effectiveness in communication skills, coordination and consultation.

Preferred Qualifications

• At least 2 years post-licensure strongly preferred.
• Experience working with eating disorders and high acuity clients.
• Experience as a supervisor of ASWs.
• Experience working with college student populations reflective of the Cal campus.
• At least three years of experience working with multi-culturally diverse populations
  including individuals with a range of trauma, health concerns, dual diagnoses, intimate partner
  violence, harassment and stalking utilizing a range of treatment modalities.
• Bilingual/multilingual proficiency
• Working knowledge of electronic health records.

Under California law, the University of California, Berkeley is required to provide a reasonable estimate of the compensation range for this role and should not offer a salary outside of the range posted in this job announcement. This range takes into account the wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, analysis of internal equity, and other business and organizational needs. It is not typical for an individual to be offered a salary at or near the top of the range for a position. Salary offers are determined based on final candidate qualifications and experience.

• The budgeted salary range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position is Step 1: $87,006.37- Step 11: $106,080.65.
• This is a full-time (40 hours/week), career position, and eligible for full UC benefits.
• This is an exempt, monthly paid position.
