The Office of the Vice Provost of Research (OVPR) supports and seeks to grow Tufts’ research enterprise, while also maintaining compliance with federal, state, and local laws and regulations. The office provides the key services necessary to deliver exceptional results in research. The OVPR is led by the Vice Provost for Research, Bernard Arulanandam and a leadership team that oversees its six main functions including: Research Administration & Development, Research Compliance & Safety, Strategic Initiatives, Technology Transfer & Industry Collaboration, Comparative Medicine Services and Business Operations.
This position has the flexibility to work remotely two to three days a week.

The Biosafety Regulatory Coordinator reports to the Assistant Director of Biosafety within the OVPR to support the functions of the Institutional Biosafety Committee (IBC) and Biosafety Program. This position will play a dual role in 1) managing the administrative activities of the biosafety committee, while 2) cross-training with our Biosafety Officers to conduct laboratory and training audits and review biological registrations.
The individual in this role will receive hands-on training and exposure to the interpretation and application of federal, state, local, and University policies, protocols, and regulations. The person in this position must exercise significant judgment, discretion, and provide professional customer service. We are seeking someone who can function independently and tsolve problems (once trained), and has the aptitude to learn new tasks and function efficiently as new projects arise.
Responsibilities include:
- Manages all administrative functions of the IBC including implementation of a new web-based software management application
- Provides instruction and technical support to research and teaching staff on electronic submission of IBC research registrations and related documents
- Conducts intake review of IBC research registration submissions and follows up to ensure completeness
- Coordinates and conducts IBC and biosafety audits for laboratory spaces. Provides recommendations and assistance to researchers, as needed, to maintain compliance. Documents audit findings and reports results to the IBC
- Serves as liaison to research and teaching staff; represents the IBC and Biosafety in responding to inquiries
- Performs training audits to ensure compliance with IBC and Biosafety training
- Partners with the research staff and biosafety team to support IBC functions
- Manages IBC membership, meetings, agendas, minutes, spreadsheets and databases
- Prepares and submits reports and documents related to local biosafety permits using online portals of regulatory agencies
- Managers all aspects of the approval, expiration, and renewal process for IBC registrations
- Once trained, will oversee the activities of an administrative staff member
What We're Looking For
Basic Requirements:
- Knowledge and experience typically acquired through completion of an associate or bachelor’s degree and 2+ years of work experience
- Should be comfortable with working in a laboratory setting
- Proficiency with computers, MS Office, and other software or web-based apps
- Must be able to travel between Boston, Medford, and Grafton campuses, as needed
- Excellent customer service skills
- Detail-oriented with superb organization skills

Preferred Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s or master’s degree in the sciences, allied health fields, safety, or related discipline
- Experience with web-based software applications and shared drives
- Experience working in a laboratory a plus
- Experience in compliance and/or regulatory administration a plus
Special Work Schedule Requirements:
- This job involves responsibilities that are performed in a hybrid working environment
- Must be able to travel between Boston, Medford, and Grafton campuses, as needed
Pay Range
Minimum $63,600.00, Midpoint $79,500.00, Maximum $95,400.00
Salary is based on related experience, expertise, and internal equity; generally, new hires can expect pay between the minimum and midpoint of the range.
