JOB DESCRIPTION SUMMARY
The Counselor provides counseling, assessment, consultation, crisis intervention, outreach referrals, and programming to support the emotional health and personal growth of WPI students. The Counselor is a collaborative team player who pursues a deepening understanding of the intersectional identities of all members of our WPI community, while providing education and guidance to staff, faculty, parents, student leaders, and other campus partners. The Counselor leads with strong ethical standards, with excellent problem-solving, interpersonal, and communication skills. This is a 10-month position.

JOB DESCRIPTION

Responsibilities:

Provide high-quality counseling services to WPI students by:

  • Offering short-term individual, group, and couples counseling, crisis intervention, and outreach referrals
  • Maintaining schedule and timely clinical records and notes through HIPAA-compliant Titanium record system
  • Providing crisis intervention, consultation and assessment as needed.
  • Serving as after-hours on-call clinician in weekly rotation
  • Providing support to the WPI community in the event of a critical incident

    Support specific program activities and initiatives through:
  • Working in coordination with other campus offices and student groups on campus to design, market and provide outreach programming on topics related to mental health, emotional growth and personal development
  • Participating in Division of Student Affairs and Campus Life meetings and activities including events organized by other campus partners to support the WPI community
  • Serving on Division or Campus Wide committees as appropriate
  • Providing peer supervision, clinical case consultation and trainings to interns and other professional staff within the Student Development and Counseling Center as appropriate.
  • Participating in the Worcester Consortium Counselors meetings as scheduled
  • Attending relevant conferences and staying abreast of trends in higher education, particularly pertaining to student life, mental health and well-being

    Engage in case management to connect students with appropriate levels of care by:
  • Facilitating referrals to support staff in other offices at WPI
  • Negotiating clinical coordination, referrals, and consultation with outpatient providers as appropriate
  • Supporting students in outreach with campus partners
  • Collaborating with Clinical Case Manager to develop and maintain clinical resource library

    Administer consulting and outreach programming by:
  • Consulting and collaborating with students, staff, faculty, parents to best support the mental health and well-being of WPI students
  • Serving as liaison to Student Affinity Spaces
  • Serving as Advisors and providing consultation for relevant student organizations, including but not limited to SPARC (Students Preventing Assault and Rape in our Community) and Active Minds

    Performs all other duties and responsibilities as assigned or directed by the supervisor.

    Requirements:
  • Masters Degree in Counselor Education, Counseling Psychology, Mental Health Counseling, Social Work, Higher Education Counseling, or Clinical Psychology required
  • License-eligible as a Mental Health Counselor, Psychologist or Social Worker in the State of Massachusetts
  • Demonstrates ability and willingness to work with a diverse population of students in individual, group, and programming settings.
  • Adaptable, creative, and able to thrive in a collaborative team environment.
  • Minimum 1 year of experience working in a college counseling environment preferred.
  • Skills, knowledge, and experience specifically focused on the needs of students of color, students from indigenous communities, LGBTQIA+ students, international students, first generation students and students holding other intersectional identities.
  • Expertise in goal-focused individual and group therapy models (DBT, ACT, Solution Focused Therapy, CBT).
  • Willing and able to work evenings and weekends as necessary.
