DEFINITION:
Under supervision to maintain swap meet and adjacent grounds.
 
EXAMPLES OF DUTIES:

  1. Maintain grounds; ensuring that swap meet lanes, parking lot, lawns, and related spaces are free of litter and dumpsters are collected and returned to the maintenance yard.
  2. Ensure the set up and return of equipment to appropriate storage areas.
  3. Walk the aisles of the Swap Meet on a regular basis (hourly); make sure aisles are clear of clutter, dangerous materials, and vendor overcrowding.
  4. Communicate clearly with a variety of community members, staff, and patrons.
  5. Assist with Vendor/Seller verification of assigned lease space; no subleasing, vendor product sold is contained within assigned space only, product sold has been approved by Swap Meet contract; safety guidelines have been followed (no more than 25# per pole) in booth set up..
  6. Attend morning meetings/briefings prior to the opening of the Swap Meet operation to vendors and customers.
  7. Prepare the assigned parking lots for the Swap Meet by making sure cars are out of area; monitor entrance gates and assisting with traffic flow.
  8. Put up signs, banners,cones, trash cans, and barrels throughout Swap Meet, as directed..
  9. Work with Campus Security to ensure customer/vendor parking is in compliance with the campus swap meet parking guidelines; monitor traffic patterns and back up.
  10. Patrol the aisles of the Swap Meet picking up trash.  Change out the bags and place them in an unobtrusive place within the driving lanes.
  11. Secure cleaned carts and Swap Meet materials at the end of the day.
  12. Report situations needing attention via the Swap Meet radios. 
  13. Be available for customers, vendors, and/or Swap Meet employees if assistance is needed.
  14. Assist with maintenance and cleaning of swap meet areas of trash (keeping trash receptacles lined and emptied; cleaning and maintenance of restrooms).
  15. Be available to replace other Swap Meet staff if needed for breaks.
  16. May oversee the work of volunteers.
  17. Perform other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications and Physical Demands

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
 
Ability to:

  1. Communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing.
  2. Review and verify vendor contracts and notify Swap Meet personnel with any issues and/or concerns.
  3. Direct vendors to their appropriate spaces for set up.
  4. Understand and carry out oral and written instructions.
  5. Explain Swap Meet policies and procedures to vendors and customers.
  6. Deal effectively with others in a tactful, courteous manner.
  7. Adhere to the duties and time frame as outlined within the schedule.
  8. Work cooperatively with others.
  9. Represent in a manner reflecting the Swap Meet, Golden West and Orange Coast Colleges in accordance with all applicable Board Policies of the Coast Community College District. 
Licenses and Certifications:
  1. Possession of a current California Driver's License
 Desirable Qualifications:
  1. Bilingual in Spanish with the ability to speak and understand Spanish.
  2. Bilingual in Vietnamese with the ability to speak and understand Vietnamese.
Physical Demands and Working Conditions:
  1. Must be able to meet and perform the physical demands required in this capacity.
  2. Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs. and work in an outdoor environment.

Conditions of Employment

This is an open announcement to fill temporary, part-time, and "on-call" positions as needed to support the Golden West College and Orange Coast College weekend swap meet.  The hours of work will be from 3:30am - 6:30pm with different shifts possible depending on campus needs, Saturday and Sunday; examples of rotating shift availability and variability are (there are no guarantees of shift assignment on a 'permanent' on going basis. The campus reserves the right to make adjustments to individual schedules to meet the changing demands and needs of the Swap Meet business and staffing coverage requirements during the course of business :

3:30am - 11:00am
4:00am - 1:00pm
6:30am - 3:30pm
7:00am - 3:30pm
8:00am - 5:00pm
?10:00am - 6:30pm

The effective date of employment will be arranged with the supervisor.  Fringe benefits are not applicable.

Employment is on a part-time, temporary basis and contingent upon verification of employment history, background verification as governed under Education Code requirements, eligibility to work in the United States, and approval by the CCCD Board of Trustees. Short term/temporary assignments do not offer fringe benefits or pay for holidays or time not worked and are limited to 28 hours per week.
 
This is a short-term, CONTINUOUS recruitment for an applicant POOL to fill part-time, temporary, hourly assignments on an as-needed basis. We accept applications all year long. Departments or Divisions will refer to the POOL of applications on file, as needed, to fill temporary assignments. (Applicants will remain in the POOL for one year.)
