    Position Summary


    The Laboratory Safety Inspector performs a wide variety of duties for UB Environment Health and Safety (EH&S).

    Duties will include:


    • Conduct on-site inspections of UB laboratories. Labs may be designated as research, teaching, or both. Work as part of a 2- or 3-person inspection team.

    • Prepare detailed written/electronic lab inspection reports using data obtained from the live inspections. Distribute reports to relevant responsible parties.

    • Schedule follow up inspections as necessary to address deficiencies noted in previous inspection reports.

    • Interprets and applies Federal and State rules, regulations, and guidelines as they apply to campus labs.

    • Verify proper personal protective equipment (PPE) is being utilized during lab work where hazardous material are in use.

    • As part of the inspection process, verify training records of lab worker are valid and up to date.

    • Stay knowledgeable of all applicable regulations as they pertain to this position.

    • Participates as a member of UB EH&S emergency Haz-Mat response team.

    • Serves as a back up to the Hazardous Material Technician as needed.

    • Work within other EHS departments as needed

    Minimum Qualifications



    • Associate’s Degree in Chemistry or other relevant science.

    • Minimum of 2 years’ experience working in a lab environment and familiarization of USEPANYSDECOSHANYSDOH regulations as they pertain to laboratory safety and compliance.

    • Demonstrated the ability to work in a team atmosphere and ability to function as part of a departmental cross-functional team.
