    Position Summary


    The Director of the Office of Medical Computing(OMC) will lead and manage IT operations supporting the University at Buffalo’s Jacobs School of Medicine and Biomedical SciencesUBMD Clinical Practice Plans, and affiliated entities. With responsibility for over 6,000 computers across 41 locations, including robust server infrastructure and audiovisual systems, you’ll oversee a dedicated team ensuring seamless technological support to approximately 3,500 faculty, staff, and students. Your role will be pivotal in shaping strategic IT initiatives, implementing cutting-edge solutions, and maintaining high standards of operational efficiency in alignment with academic and clinical objectives. In this position, you will:


    • Lead and manage IT operations at the Office of Medical Computing (OMC) supporting ~3,500 faculty, staff, and students, overseeing 6,000+ computers and 150 servers across 41 locations.

    • Direct a team of 21 FTEs across key OMC components including Network Infrastructure and Server Administration, User Support, Audio Visual Support, and Programming/Data Group.

    • Support the Jacobs School and UBMD Clinical Practice Plans with tailored IT solutions, including desktop imaging, remote access services, and EMR server management.

    • Collaborate with senior leadership to set IT priorities aligned with academic and clinical business goals.

    • Develop and implement IT standards, policies, and procedures in coordination with UB/UBIT guidelines.

    • Represent the School and Clinical Practice Plans on external committees and oversee communication of IT strategies to stakeholders.

    • Manage the IT budget to optimize resource allocation and ensure cost efficiency.

    • Recruit, supervise, and evaluate IT staff to support administrative, academic, and research computing needs.

    • Drive the design and implementation of information systems supporting operational, academic, and business functions.

    • Evaluate emerging technologies and propose innovative solutions to meet evolving IT needs.

    Minimum Qualifications



    • Bachelor’s degree with 5 years of experience or master’s degree or professional certification with 3 years of experience
