    We are currently hiring for an Overnight Veterinary technician to be an intrinsic member of our ER/ICU team who will be dual trained by the anesthesia service to induce and monitor general anesthesia for animals requiring emergency surgery during their shift.


     


    These services have over 30 years of experience in training team members to provide critical patient care and anesthesia. We are looking to add a team member who will participate in emergency and critical care nursing and be designated to transition to the OR when needed. Mentorship from both the anesthesia team and the critical care team will be provided.

    This position qualifies for a $2,000 sign on bonus following successful completion of 6 months of employment for newly hired employees.



    What You'll Do


    As a veterinary technician on the emergency team, you will be working as part of an integrated clinical care team to provide high quality nursing care to inpatient, outpatient, critically ill and emergent patients. In addition, this role is also responsible for instrumenting and monitoring patients undergoing general anesthesia for emergency surgery during the designated shift.
    Essential Functions as an Overnight ER/Anesthesia Vet Tech will be:


    Clinical Anesthesia



    • Assessment and anesthetic management of patients from induction, throughout procedure, through to recovery.

    • Provide service to patients and support to co-workers and students that are consistent with our hospital’s standards of minimizing fear, anxiety, stress and pain in our patients.


    Emergency and Critical Care



    • Collaborate with administrative and clinical care teams to coordinate and prioritize patient care. Assist clinicians with procedures.

    • Monitor, manage, and implement treatment plans as ordered by clinicians to insure prompt delivery of high-quality patient care.

    • Complete diagnostic testing in as ordered by clinicians, including bench-top lab tests and radiographs. Provide technical assistance for clinical and academic research.


    Cleaning/Stocking



    • Cleaning and stocking of supplies and equipment in all areas of anesthesia and ER that the departments are responsible for. Complete projects as assigned by supervisor.


    Teaching



    • Clinical instruction pertaining to anesthesia and ECC protocols and procedures of veterinary students, interns, residents and student technicians.


     



    • Other duties as assigned by supervisor. Emergency case management and student teaching.


     


    The anticipated schedule for this position is Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday 8pm - 8:15am


    This position is a 3-day overnight position. Weekends are NOT required.

    • Associates Degree in Veterinary technology or a high school diploma (or the equivalent). Minimum two year of veterinary technician experience

    • CVT or minimum of 2-3 years working as a veterinary technician not as a CVT

    • Working knowledge of Microsoft Word.

    • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. with or without accommodation


    Additional Preferred Experience, Education, etc.



    • Basic skill set in IV catheter placement, animal handling and restraint, phlebotomy

    • Ability to work independently

    • Willingness to receive work direction from others and function as a team member

    • Ability to communicate professionally

    • Interest to learn advanced anesthesia practices/protocols/patient assessment



    Pay Range

    Minimum $29.40, Midpoint $35.00, Maximum $40.60
     

    Salary is based on related experience, expertise, and internal equity; generally, new hires can expect pay between the minimum and midpoint of the range.
