    Departmental Overview

    The Department of Plant and Microbial Biology ranks among top institutions worldwide for research and training in plant biology and microbiology.

    Position Summary

    The candidate will develop research in my laboratory to advance one funded grant that my laboratory has obtained. They will be trained into using our bacterial model of study and then they will perform experiments after training. Techniques that they will perform include: Phenotypic growth studies, activity assays, system level approaches such as metabolomics analysis, and RNA isolation. Preparation of samples for ICP-MS, bioreactor setup, and cloning to generate mutants. The candidate will also do protein purification and screen for deep mutational scanning.

    Responsibilities



    • Experiments including growth phenotypic analysis, system level approaches, bioreactor setup, isolation of DNA and RNA and cloning, protein purification, enzyme assays.

    • Contributing to writing manuscripts.

    • Ordering supplies for the different projects of the lab.

    • Maintaining strain, primer, and plasmid libraries organized and updated.

    • Maintaining chemical catalog organized and updated.



    Required Qualifications



    • Experience in microbial growth.

    • Experience with sterile techniques.

    • Experience with basic biochemical techniques: Protein purification, liquid chromatography.

    • Experience working with methylotrophs.



    Preferred Qualifications



    • Experience with system level approaches such as metabolomics and RNA-seq.

    • Bachelor's degree in Microbiology, Biochemistry, or related field experience in lab research for 2+ years and/or equivalent experience/training.



    Salary & Benefits

    This is a 100% full-time (40 hrs a week) non-exempt career position, which is paid hourly and eligible for UC Benefits.

This range takes into account the wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, analysis of internal equity, and other business and organizational needs. It is not typical for an individual to be offered a salary at or near the top of the range for a position. Salary offers are determined based on final candidate qualifications and experience.

    The hourly rate that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position is $26.52 (Step 1).
