    Departmental Overview

    The Goldman School of Public Policy is a graduate school at the University of California, Berkeley that prepares students for careers in public leadership.

    GSPP offers the following degree programs: The Master of Public Policy (MPP) program emphasizes the applied and quantitative dimensions of policy making. The Master of Public Affairs (MPA) focuses on policy management and leadership for midcareer professionals. The Master of Development Practice (MDP) studies innovative and sustainable approaches to international development. GSPP also offers a doctoral program, an undergraduate minor, and several concurrent degrees.

    Risk-Resilience Research (RRR) is a fun, dynamic, interdisciplinary team of students, staff, and scholars at the University of California, Berkeley.     Position Description

    We are looking for a Research Assistant (RA) to join our team. The RA will work in person with our faculty, staff and students on several ongoing projects. Projects range from implementing and evaluating a videogame-supported afterschool program for very young, at-risk adolescents-to testing a hospital staff training program that is designed to prevent violence among adult psychiatric inpatients at Napa State Hospital. The RA will be an integral member of our diverse team of researchers and community partners-assisting with data collection, interacting with our team, and helping drive innovative solutions to complex problems.

    Responsibilities



    • Help implement a highly structured group intervention at multiple Bay Area middle schools, which includes directly supporting the lead facilitator by supervising gaming, troubleshooting technical issues, helping organize tournaments, managing prizes and other related tasks as they arise.

    • Participant recruitment, tracking and retention.

    • Participant interviewing/surveying (direct data collection at research sites).

    • Help coordinate hospital staff training sessions.

    • Attend team meetings, correspond with the study team, and process data.

    • Other duties as required



    Required Qualifications



    • Strong interpersonal skills, including the ability to work well with community partners, stakeholders, academics, and students.

    • Strong organizational skills as demonstrated by the ability to effectively manage multiple tasks.

    • Strong verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to summarize and present complex information in a clear and concise manner.

    • Strong working knowledge of MS office--particularly Excel, Word and PowerPoint.

    • Willingness to work cooperatively in a team environment.

    • Familiarity with video games and ability to troubleshoot technical issues.

    • Ability to take initiative and manage workload under supervision.

    • Cultural responsiveness: ability to work with a diverse population.

    • Availability during business hours; with flexibility to work on evenings or weekends as needed based on project requirements.

    • Reliable transportation to get to research sites. Punctuality is required.

    • Graduation from high school or General Education Diploma and two years of experience in collection of survey data or equivalent combination of education and experience.



    Preferred Qualifications



    • Clinical and/or research interviewing experience.

    • Experience, training, or background working in school or afterschool settings.

    • Experience, training, or background working in mental health and/or education fields.

    • Experience working with R or SPSS statistical software/databases.

    • Fluency in Spanish (strongly preferred)

    • Experience working with children and adolescents (strongly preferred)

    Under California law, the University of California, Berkeley is required to provide a reasonable estimate of the compensation range for this role and should not offer a salary outside of the range posted in this job announcement. This range takes into account the wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, analysis of internal equity, and other business and organizational needs. It is not typical for an individual to be offered a salary at or near the top of the range for a position. Salary offers are determined based on final candidate qualifications and experience.

    The budgeted hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position is $23.26 (step 1) - $29.35 (step 12).

    This position is governed by the terms and conditions in the agreement for the Clerical & Allied Services Unit (CX) between the University of California and Teamsters Local 2010.
