    Overview


    Located five miles from downtown Boston, Tufts University is a Division III member of the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) and the highly-competitive New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC). Tufts students participate in 30 varsity sports, 32 club sports and a number of intramural sports. Tufts Athletics has won thirteen NCAA team championships since 2010 and has finished in the top 10 of the Learfield Sports Directors’ Cup in each of the last ten years, including winning the Director's Cup in 2022 as the top Division III Athletic Department in the nation. Tufts Athletics oversees the Physical Education Department and manages all athletics facilities, including the Steve Tisch Sports & Fitness Center.     What You'll Do


    The Associate Head Coach partners with the Director of Track & Field/Cross Country, the Head Coach and other Assistant Coaches to coordinate operations for the Men’s and Women’s Indoor and Outdoor Track & Field programs and coach highly competitive student athletes in designated events. Preference for coach of speed and power events with expertise in short sprints and jumps. Selected candidate will lead early winter indoor practice and training sessions with teams. The Associate Head Coach plays a lead role in determining program strategies, recruiting, training, meet management, monitoring performance of student-athletes and ensuring adherence to conference and university policies and procedures.


     


    Essential Functions: 



    • Instruct and coach men’s and women’s indoor and outdoor track & field student-athletes individually and in groups. Assess performance needs and develop training plans

    • Plan and coach practice/training sessions and team competitions.
      Partner with Director and Head Coach to develop meet strategy, position assignments, event entries.

    • Ensure adherence to all association, conference and university rules by student-athletes and supporting staff.

    • Recruit a portfolio of prospective student-athletes and ensure timely submission of materials for admission.

    • Engage with alumni and donors for team and program fundraising initiatives and external relations as needed

    • Manage meets and other program operations as necessary.

    • Assists Director and Head Coach in oversight and direction of part-time and Assistant Coaches

    • Complete a secondary duty within the Department and other duties, as assigned by the Director of Athletics

    Basic Requirements:



    • Bachelor’s degree;
    • Collegiate level coaching experience;
    • Strong leadership, interpersonal and communication skills;
    • Ability to develop and relate to student-athletes in an extremely competitive academic environment;
    • Dedication to the full academic, athletic and social development of student-athletes;
    • Commitment to gender equity, rules compliance, diversity and inclusion and the mission of Tufts University
    • Valid US driver’s license and ability to travel;
    • Additional Preferred Experience, Education, etc.



    Preferred Qualifications


     


    • 3 years collegiate level coaching experience;
    • Experience competing as a collegiate student-athlete



    Pay Range

    Minimum $48,000.00, Midpoint $59,700.00, Maximum $72,000.00
     
    Salary is based on related experience, expertise, and internal equity; generally, new hires can expect pay between the minimum and midpoint of the range.
