    Position Summary


    University Facilities Campus Planning Office seeks a visionary design/planning professional to develop and assist the Director in leading the architectural planners in the Campus Planning office. They will ensure the office has an accurate and consistent approach to space programming, planning, and management, as well as lead campus master planning efforts to assure the pursuit of the University’s overall mission as a flagship SUNY research institution. In this senior level role, ongoing responsibilities include but are not limited to:


    • Assist the Director of Campus Planning in leading planning projects and initiatives.

    • Work with University Facilities leadership to lead a team driven by the continuous improvement of the University’s space utilization.

    • Assist the Director to oversee the development of campus and unit planning studies. These studies will be used by university and unit leadership to make key strategic decisions to advance the university’s mission and goals.

    • Enhance and foster a culture of collaboration within Campus Planning, University Facilities and the university community to promote design quality as a fundamental aspect of the campus experience.

    • Continually support the professional development of staff as lifelong learners through mentoring, coaching, and developing individuals to pair interests and expertise with university needs.

    • Coordinate disparate project and planning activities are coordinated to meet University goals and assure the best use of campus space and resources.

    • Assist the Director in the development and execution of staffing resource strategies, to accomplish UB’s Top 25 goal through the delivery of cutting-edge higher education facilities and space management of these facilities to support the ongoing work of the university, attract world-class faculty & staff, and increase student retention.

    Minimum Qualifications



    • Bachelor’s degree in Architecture, Urban Planning or related degree with 3 years of experience in an institution’s planning office. Master’s degree or professional certification with 1 year of experience. Equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted for the degree.

    • Excellent oral, written, organizational, and interpersonal skills required.

    • Demonstrated ability to work with a diverse group of staff at all levels of an organization.


    Preferred Qualifications



    • Master’s degree in Architecture, Urban Planning, or related field with 3 years of experience in a leadership role.

    • Demonstration of ability to lead architectural space programming studies, and architectural project work plans.

    • Experience in higher education planning or programming projects is desired.

    • New York State registration in architecture ideal.
