    Columbia Engineering invites applications for an Associate Research Scientist in the Department of Computer Science at Columbia University in the City of New York to begin on September 1, 2024.


    The successful candidate is expected to contribute to the advancement of the research program of faculty participating in the AI Institute for Artificial and Natural Intelligence, who seek to connect AI research to the revolution of our understanding of the brain, creating new paradigms of interdisciplinary research between AI, neuroscience, and cognitive science.


    Research areas and approaches include:



    •     Robust and flexible learning

    •     Continual learning

    •     Reasoning about causality and uncertainty

    •     The neural mechanisms of intelligence

    •     Language and vision


    Qualifications


    Candidates must have a PhD in Computer Science, Neuroscience, Statistics, or related fields (conferred by the time of their start date), with a focus on at least one of the five research areas: Robust and flexible learning; Continual learning; Reasoning about causality and uncertainty; The neural mechanisms of intelligence; Language and vision.



    1. Ability to work with multiple faculty in collaborative interdisciplinary projects

    2. Excellent project management skills.

    3. Excellent written and communication skills.

    4. Ability to mentor undergraduate and graduate students.

    5. Interest in leading outreach programs and support the organization of seminars and workshops.


    Hiring Salary Range: $78,155 - $90,000. The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to departmental budgets, qualifications, experience, education, licenses, specialty, and training. The above hiring range represents the University’s good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.
