    Position Summary


    The Office of Capital Planning is responsible for coordinating the development and implementation of budget and capital facilities planning efforts for the campus consistent with the strategic aspirations of the University. The office integrates budgeting and facilities planning activities for the entire university. The Landscape Architectural Planner will report to the Director and be part of a professional team responsible for these planning efforts and overall campus space management.

    Specific responsibilities include:



      • Develop designs to various landscape spaces throughout North and South campuses within established budget parameters. Present landscape designs to supervisors and senior leadership for approval. Develop design and construction documents for review and implementation.

      • Serve as lead planner on the development and maintenance of the University’s landscape master plan and develop implementation strategy with timeline and required budget.

      • Work with Grounds staff in Facilities Operations on the existing campus tree database and develop campus plan to increase tree inventory and maintenance strategy. Develop, manage and, administrate memorial programs (e.g. trees, benches, gardens).

      • Coordinate and manage exterior signage placement, repair and, replacement.

      • Coordinate with the Grounds staff in Facilities Operations to improve campus landscape on all three university campuses to provide the optimal landscapes that are in alignment with the University’s Climate Action Plan, human and financial resources.

      • Assist in campus master planning. Participate in all aspects of campus landscape planning including consensus building with academic and administrative units, working with the State University Construction Fund, University Facilities, and other agencies, instilling vision and energy to optimize the University environment.

      • Participate in the review of landscape design plans and drawings prepared by other state agencies and/or consultants and offer written analysis and recommendations.

      • Share expertise from your technical experience as it applies to the entire spectrum of landscape design and maintenance as processes and policies evolve. Coach and mentor junior staff and interns.

      • Represent the Campus Planning office on university-wide committees. The Incumbent would act as liaison the University community regarding facilities issues and campus planning. Other duties could be assigned as required.

    Minimum Qualifications



    • A Bachelor’s degree is required in Landscape Architecture.

    • Two years of experience involving project management, landscape design and master planning.


    Preferred Qualifications



    • Landscape Architectural license


    Physical Demands


    The incumbent will work with University Facilities Grounds staff on site regarding landscape design, plant selection and landscape maintenance. This may require physical exertion and/or visiting sites which are not wheelchair accessible.
