    Departmental Overview

    The California Institute for Quantitative Biosciences (QB3) is a cooperative effort between the state of California, private industry, venture capital, and the University of California campuses at Berkeley, San Francisco, and Santa Cruz. In order to stimulate discovery at the intersection of the physical and biological sciences, QB3 promotes multidisciplinary research at world-class facilities, creates innovative educational programs, and fosters industry partnerships. The Institute's more than 180 researchers decipher the complex systems involved in living systems and discover ground-breaking applications for that basic knowledge in the areas of health, energy, and the environment.

    • Receives and delivers materials, supplies and equipment to Stanley Hall and various campus locations.

    • Resolves receiving discrepancies with vendor, customer and campus staff.

    • Maintains comprehensive record of deliveries.

    • Matches documentation from received orders, scans packing lists, match and upload files in on-line purchasing system.

    • Researches and identifies misdirected or improperly labeled deliveries.

    • Provides support to allow for returning items as well as outgoing express mail (FedEx, UPS, DHL, etc.).

    • Properly stores perishable packages, e.g., refrigerate, freeze.

    • Develops/maintains forms for collecting appropriate information to resolve delivery questions.

    • Ensures records are properly maintained to facilitate research on equipment, POs and deliveries.

    • Assists QB3 property management in tagging, delivering, recording, and salvaging equipment.

    • Performs cyclical counting of on-hand building supplies in emergency response rooms, storage closets, and mechanical rooms.


    • Assists customers in finding appropriate merchandise, ensures complete and accurate documentation for redistribution of costs and replenishes inventory.

    • Delivers on-line orders to all campus buildings.

    • Assists with receiving and checking of packages for replenishment of stock items.

    Special Projects:

    • Responds to or redirect calls, emails, and in-person inquiries about services and operations of QB3, Stanley Hall, or Storeroom.

    • Support building events by arranging setups or providing access.

    • Works on special projects as assigned by the QB3 and Stanley Hall management.

    Required Qualifications

    • Ability to lift 75 lbs.

    • Ability to manipulate 100 lbs. and more using material handling equipment.

    • Demonstrated successful previous work experience.

    • Ability to take action and implement changes with minimal direction or supervision.

    • Accuracy in data entry and the ability to keep detailed and accurate records.

    • Communication skills to allow incumbent to effectively and efficiently read, write, and follow oral and written instructions.

    • Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills and experience.

    • Ability to develop and maintain cooperative effective working relationships with students, faculty and staff, including individuals from a wide variety of cultures and backgrounds.

    • Demonstrated ability to work independently, organize work assignments and establish priorities.

    Preferred Qualifications

    • Knowledge of shipping/receiving procedures.

    • Knowledge of procedures for handling/shipping hazardous supplies.

    • Knowledge of laboratory supplies used in the biological sciences.

    • Knowledge of and/or ability to learn the University budget, fiscal management and organizational structure, and campus administration.

    • Knowledge of and/or ability to learn BFS and UCB financial systems, Excel, Word, Adobe Acrobat as well as experience using databases.

    • One year of experience assisting in the receipt, storage, or issuance of materials from a centralized warehouse, mailroom, stockroom, or closely related shipping and receiving experience.

    Salary & Benefits

    • This is a full-time (40 hours/week), career position, and eligible for full UC benefits.

    • This position is a non-exempt, bi-weekly paid position. Hourly pay for this role is commensurate with experience within the range of $22.73-$27.07 (Step 1.0 - 9.0).

    Other Information

    This position is governed by the terms and conditions in the agreement for the Clerical & Allied Services Unit (CX) between the University of California and Teamsters Local 2010. The current bargaining agreement manual can be found at:
