    The Clinical and Translational Science Institute (CTSI) and its Clinical and Translational Science Award (CTSA) and linked Mentored Career Development Award represent a large NIH Infrastructure grant to support clinical and translational research at the University at Buffalo (UB) and the Buffalo Translational Consortium (BTC) partner institutions under the leadership of the Director of the CTSI. The Programmer / Analyst is a full-time professional position that will be focused on research issues related to translational biomedical informatics and will involve working as part of the Informatics Core of the CTSI. The Programmer / Analyst will work with research teams throughout the BTC to integrate informatics tools into their clinical and translational research activities, assist research teams in database development and responsible data handling and work with the Informatics Team to develop novel tools to advance the field of biomedical informatics. The individual will report to Dr. Peter Elkin, Director of the CTSI Informatics Core and will work with and interact with other CTSI cores.

    The Programmer / Analyst position includes the following responsibilities:

    • Work with research teams throughout the BTC to integrate informatics tools into their clinical and translational research activities
    • Assist research teams in database development and responsible data handling
    • Work as part of the Informatics Core to develop novel tools to advance the field of biomedical informatics
    • Work with and interact with other CTSI Cores in incorporating efficient, data-driven approaches to perform and track core activities
    • Work with the CTSI Recruitment Team, Community Engagement Core and Integrating Special Populations Core to develop and implement informatics-based approaches to recruitment to clinical trials
    • Participate in working on specific projects in the Informatics Core. These may include:
    o work with the Informatics Team and CTSI staff to refine, implement and test a cell phone app to enhance recruitment to clinical trials
    o Perform network analysis to track collaborations and create an online registry for ongoing team science activities and resources
    • Perform tasks to contribute to developing and testing new informatics tools and resources to enhance clinical and translational research and improve the efficiency and integration of our research support services
    • Provide training and basic support in the use of informatics resources to researchers
    • Work with research teams to assist in retrospective, data mining research with the Institutional Health Data Repository
    • Connect research teams with CD2H and other CTSA consortium resources and assist the research teams in using them in their research
    • Assist investigators in developing comprehensive data management and data sharing plans based on standardized data models and terminologies.
    • Assist with progress reports and grant submissions as needed
    • Participate in CTSI staff meetings and other meetings/events relevant to position.
    • Perform other duties and/or tasks as assigned
    • Adhere to all administrative and personnel policies of the Research Foundation for SUNY and the CTSI.
