  • Director, Aircraft Maintenance

    Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University

    Responsible to the ERAU Flight Department for the overall operation of the ERAU Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Part 145 repair station activities. The first priority of this position is to ensure that the highest degree of safety is upheld during all maintenance activities. The Director of Aircraft Maintenance provides support and leadership to a large group of aircraft maintenance professionals seven days a week. The director is responsible for planning all scheduled maintenance and managing unscheduled maintenance to provide a high level of aircraft availability to the College of Aviation Flight Department.



    In addition, the director is responsible for ensuring that proper documentation on ERAU aircraft is kept and that all maintenance is completed in accordance with current Federal Aviation Regulations, airworthiness directives, service bulletins, and aircraft repair station manuals. The director is also responsible for the strategic and daily budgeting for all costs associated with the maintenance of ERAU aircraft. The director is responsible for ensuring and providing adequate training, equipment, materials and competent personnel pertinent to the operations of the repair station. In addition, the director communicates and coordinates with the FAA, aircraft manufacturers, aircraft part vendors, Fixed Based Operators (FBOs) and service contractors as required.



    Essential Job Functions, Duties, or Accountabilities:



    Direct all ERAU aircraft maintenance operations and provide leadership to the fleet maintenance department to ensure compliance with all applicable Federal Aviation Regulations (FARs), airworthiness directives, service bulletins, and aircraft repair station manuals pertaining to ERAU aircraft as the Accountable Manager for FAR 145 Repair Station 25%



    Develops and collects on Key Performance Indicators for overall department performance. Submits reports and summaries across a wide range of measures to demonstrate performance based assessment of department. 15%



    Develops daily maintenance schedules that will provide the highest level of aircraft availability to the flight operation 5%



    Provides oversight and guidance on day-to-day expenditures all aircraft and maintenance accounts (<$7.5 million annually). Monitor maintenance expenditures, provide input and information on current and projected aircraft operating cost to the Flight Department Budget Manager and Chair, Flight Department. Assist in the development and implementation of the annual departmental budget 15%



    Responsible for the ERAU fleet maintenance safety, environmental, and annual training programs. This includes original and recurrent training of personnel consistent with the work to be performed in their fleet maintenance roles 5%



    Responsible for managing hazardous materials, including hazardous materials handling and disposal in accordance with all Federal, State, and local laws relating to hazardous materials. Attendance in annual refresher training on hazardous materials handling and disposal is required 5%



    Provide accurate aircraft status information on a real time basis for scheduling to support the daily flying schedule 5%



    Coordinate with the FAA, various aircraft manufacturers, parts vendors, FBOs and service contractors as required 10%



    Provide logistical support in the acquisition, and delivery of all new aircraft and the disposition of older aircraft being replaced 2%



    Represents maintenance personnel and coordinates across Flight Department and College of Aviation as needed to improve processes and results. Includes coordinating for Research & Development efforts in Maintenance department. Provide a high level of customer satisfaction and maintain a department image appropriate to ERAU as the leader in Aviation Education 3%



    Additional duties as assigned


    Qualifications

    Bachelor’s degree. Area of study: Aircraft Maintenance or Business Management and 10 plus years of progressive aircraft maintenance experience, in light general aviation aircraft.

    Required licenses, certificates, and /or security clearances: Current Airframe and Powerplant Certificate required with no violations; Current FAA Inspection Authorization preferred

    Ability to provide a high level of customer satisfaction and maintain a department image appropriate to ERAU as the leader in Aviation Education
    Basic PC Software Skills (e.g. spreadsheet, word processing and database etc.)
    Demonstrated ability to manage people and systems in an organizational setting
    Possess excellent organization, time management and people skills
    Ability to prioritize, problem solve and manage multiple simultaneous tasks
    Ability to work independently following established guidelines, procedures and directives from higher level leaders
    Strong written and verbal communication skills
