Departmental Overview

Berkeley Regional Services (BRS) is comprised of six (6) Regions which provide services to specific "groupings/clusters" of schools, colleges, and organized research units (5 academic, 1 all other). This regional approach to providing administrative services is intended to improve service quality by re-establishing personal connections and to develop more local expertise.

Chemistry and Mathematical and Physical Sciences (ChaMPS) is a service region within Berkeley Regional Services, within the division of Vice Chancellor for Administration, providing reliable, high-quality integrative administrative support to faculty, academics, staff, student employees, and retirees in support of the UC Berkeley mission of teaching, research, and public service.

ChaMPS provides services in the areas of Business and Financial Services, Human Resources/ Academic Personnel Support and Research Administration (pre-award and post-award administration) for the College of Chemistry, the Division of Mathematical and Physical Sciences in the College of Letters & Science, Space Science Laboratory, and several other ORUs.

This position's primary emphasis is analyzing HR/personnel-related data and entering it into the Human Capital Management (HCM) system.

  • Enters employee information into Human Capital Management system and UCPath for new hires, payroll, change of status, terminations, pay issues, final pay, etc, ensuring that the data is correct and consistent.
  • Collaborates with HR/AP Partners, HR Generalists, HRIM/Payroll colleagues, and clients to research more complex department-related and employee issues.
  • May provide employees with standard information regarding department and organizational HR practices and procedures as they relate to the HCM system.
  • Manages sensitive and confidential information.
  • Manages customer management cases and tasks related to designated clients.
  • Runs reports on department staff for department managers and supervisors.
  • May be assigned special projects for professional development.

Required Qualifications
  • Demonstrated knowledge of HR/Payroll processes for data entry into HCM and UCPath.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of HR processes and procedures for maintenance and purging of personnel files.
  • General knowledge of benefits eligibility requirements.
  • Knowledge of EEO and affirmative action reporting requirements.
  • Knowledge of job posting procedures.
  • Skill in managing sensitive and confidential information regarding bargaining unit issues.
  • Attention to detail and accuracy.

  • High school diploma or equivalent experience/training.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite.

Salary & Benefits

This position is a non-exempt, bi-weekly paid position. Hourly pay for this role is commensurate with experience within the range of $24.17 - $29.65, Steps 1.0 - 10.0.

Other Information

This is a 6-month, full-time (40-hours per week), Limited (temporary) appointment.

This position is governed by the terms and conditions in the agreement for the Clerical & Allied Services Unit (CX) between the University of California and Teamsters Local 2010. The current bargaining agreement manual can be found at:
