Overview
The Department of Infectious Disease and Global Health (IDGH) combines four important areas of expertise within Tufts University Cummings School of Veterinary Medicine. These are public/population health, international medicine, wildlife and conservation medicine, and infectious disease research. The alignment of these areas promotes cross-disciplinary strengths that are important in achieving the department's goal of improving human, animal and ecosystem health locally, nationally and globally.
What You'll Do
The Department of Infectious Disease and Global Health is looking for a Lab Animal Technician to join our team. This position will involve a variety laboratory and animal model-related tasks under the supervision of the principal investigators.
The primary animal-related tasks include:
- Daily animal husbandry (including feeding, cleaning and observation)
- Performance of research
- Cleaning and maintenance of the animal facility.
- Maintain animal records.
- Order and Stock supplies as needed
Non-animal related work, including but not limited to:
- Tissue culture;
- Immunoassays;
- PCR;
- Protein purification;
- Data collection and analysis;
- Preparation of study reports;
- Record-keeping;
- Laboratory cleaning, organization and maintenance;
- Equipment maintenance and cleaning;
- Reagent preparation
The Laboratory Animal Techinican will:
- Meet with Principal Investigators to get understanding of experiment needs, scheduling, special instructions, etc. The primary laboratory-related tasks include cleaning and maintenance of the laboratory, o, performing laboratory assays (including tissue culture, immunoassays, PCR, protein purification, etc.), data recording and analysis, preparation of laboratory reports, performance of necropsies, and tissue collection and preparation of tissue for histology. The individual will be expected to take on new and/or additional duties as needed. Some weekend work and late evening work may be required.
What We're Looking For
Basic Requirements:
- 2-3 Years of related experience required
- Education: Bachelor’s Degree
- Driver’s license
- Basic computer skills
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs with or without accommodation.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Infectious disease experience preferred. Experience with bovine and rodents.
Pay Range
Minimum $19.30, Midpoint $23.15, Maximum $27.00
Salary is based on related experience, expertise, and internal equity; generally, new hires can expect pay between the minimum and midpoint of the range.
