Job Summary
Support environmental compliance and sustainability within Georgia Southern's commitment toward sustainability. Ensure compliance with state and federal environmental regulations.

  • Perform related duties as assigned to support the mission of the University
  • Respond in a timely manner to work order requests for pickups of hazardous waste, universal waste, or biomedical waste including vendor coordination
  • Properly label and stage waste streams in hazardous waste building to ensure compliance with regulations
  • Perform weekly inspections in hazardous waste storage building and maintain facility with regards to regulatory requirements and housekeeping
  • Perform environmental compliance inspections and other duties as specified in Environmental Management System
  • Assist with data collection for Climate Action Plan or other environmental and sustainability reports
  • Maintain accurate and concise records
  • Follow all safety policies in performance of work and wear personal protective equipment when needed
  • Respond to incidents, customer requests, emergencies and site clean-ups

Required Qualifications
Educational Requirements
  • High school diploma or equivalent

Required Experience
  • One (1) or more years of related work experience

Preferred Qualifications
Additional Preferred Qualifications
  • Successful forty hour (40) Hazardous Waste Operations and Emergency Response (HAZWOPER) training

Preferred Educational Qualifications
  • Associate's degree from accredited college in Environmental Sciences or related field

Preferred Experience
  • Three (3) or more years of relevant experience
  • Experience in higher education, research laboratories, environmental consultation, or comparable institutional environment
