Position Summary:

The Institutional Review Board (IRB) Coordinator oversees the development and management of research regulatory compliance efforts as required by the state and federal laws and university policies and procedures including oversight of faculty committees that approve research protocols and procedures, training, ethics, and safety for the use of human subjects.

This position is the university's subject matter expert for use of human subjects research within the university. Responsibilities include assisting the IRB with development and implementation of IRB procedures, and ensuring compliance with regulations as it pertains to researchers and sponsors; and providing advice and guidance to faculty, staff, and student researchers on the same. The IRB Coordinator is essential to ensuring IRB protocols are appropriately routed and reviewed in compliance with OHRP regulations and University of Idaho policies. In addition, the coordinator will provide training on standard operating procedures and regulations to faculty, staff and student investigators both on and off the Moscow campus. The IRB Coordinator also provides guidance to the IRB Committee.

The IRB Coordinator accomplishes a wide variety of tasks with considerable independence and must exercise discretion in applying policies and procedures using professional judgment, demeanor, and in a manner that promotes a positive image for the Office of Research and Economic Development. IRB Coordinator ensures safeguards to the flow of sensitive and confidential information.

Minimum Qualifications:

Education:
Bachelors degree in a field relevant to this position and three years of experience in research, legal or compliance environment or five years of progressive experience in research administration with extensive emphasis relative to this position.

Experience:
Interpreting and applying regulations or policies and procedures.
Independently researching, compiling, developing and summarizing material for reports; analyzing information.
Identifying complex problems, defining alternatives and developing recommendations for management and administrators.
Working with research compliance issues in a professional setting.
Effectively presenting and public speaking, conducting training programs, problem solving and analyzing information.

Specific to the position:
Prior experience working on or with a compliance committee relevant to this position as a member or in an administrative role.
Continued employment is contingent upon successful attainment of CITI Certification within the first month in position.

Preferred Qualifications:

Degree in applicable discipline
Working experience leading the development and implementation of policies.
At least three years of experience directly related to the operation of a Social/Behavioral Institutional Review Board in an academic setting.
Certified IRB Professional
Experience creating and teaching on-line and in-person trainings with various size groups.

Must possess:
Strong interpersonal skills and proficiency in diverse communication mediums including written, verbal, telephone,
computer, and group presentations.
Strong attention to details with a high degree of accuracy in work.

Ability to:
Integrate resources, policies, and information for the determination of procedures, solutions, and other outcomes.
Identify and implement actionable steps to resolve problems.
Balance competing demands for time and prioritize workload to meet strict deadlines.
Work independently with minimal direction and as a team member in a collaborative, supportive manner.
Exercise independent judgment based on an understanding of organizational policies and activities.
