Departmental Overview

The Cal 1 Card Program reports to the Residential and Student Service Programs (RSSP) and produces the official campus photo ID cards for all UC Berkeley students, employees, and affiliates as a means by which they may effectively identify their affiliation and corresponding eligibility for access to applicable campus facilities, services, and events.

Responsibilities

Card Production Operations:

  • Ensure availability of effective and reliable card production services during posted office hours, including the direct provision of in-person card production services when limited or student staff are not available. Card production services include printing and issuance of the AC Transit EasyPass Clipper Card and issuance to students eligible for the Class Pass program, including inventory control and security. Coordinate batch printing and remote issuance logistics for applicable cohorts. Trouble-shoot card production and functionality issues as well escalating out-of-scope issues to corresponding departments (e.g. SAIT, Library, RSF, P&T). Monitor the Qless software/interface as well as the sign-in kiosks and display monitors, trouble-shoot issues that may arise, and escalate for further support as needed.


Phone and Email Support Services:

  • Ensure availability of effective and reliable phone support during posted office hours, including fielding incoming phone calls when limited or student staff are not available. Ensure availability of effective and reliable email support during posted office hours via the C1C Operations ServiceNow queue and the c1c_notifications SPA.


Office Staffing Support:

  • In alignment with Department, Division, and Campus staffing values and short- and long-term operational goals, assist with the hiring, training, and development of Limited and Student Staff to provide strong customer service that is compliant with FERPA, privacy regulations, data integrity and security, and other applicable policies. Assist with drafting, updating, and maintaining hiring and training documents / materials (e.g. interview questions, SOPs, office best practices, customer service templates).


Billing for Card Production Services:

  • Ensure accurate billing and reconciliation in a timely manner for services rendered. Assist with drafting, updating, and maintaining corresponding MOU agreements. Perform data entry, gathering, and reporting of applicable metrics. Ensure a timely reply to stakeholder inquiries.


Debit Fund Management:

  • Ensure effective management of the Cal 1 Card Debit program. Identify, assess, and escalate (as needed) corrective actions related to technical problems or human error resulting in inaccuracies. Process refund requests per the applicable debit program terms and conditions. Perform data entry, gathering, and reporting of applicable metrics.


Inventory Control:

  • Ensure sufficient inventory of general office supplies and card printing materials (e.g. card stock, print ribbons, laminate rolls) is procured and maintained in compliance with procurement, security, and other applicable policy requirements.


Website Content Updates:

  • Ensure that Cal 1 Card website content accurately describes the Cal 1 Card program. Identify and correct any errors / inaccuracies. Ensure that all electronic and hard-copy displays of Cal 1 Card information are accurate / updated.


Required Qualifications

  • Demonstrated ability to apply University policies and governmental regulations to daily operations of an operation responsible for legally defined sensitive data.
  • Familiarity with the skills needed to direct selection, hiring, and evaluation and discipline of student and limited staff. Interpersonal skills to effectively motivate others.
  • Strong skills in problem-solving and customer service to effectively manage multiple priorities.
  • Solid knowledge of common campus-specific and other computer application programs; technical ability to act as liaison to IT staff who develop and support systems related to card technology and office tools.
  • Writing skills to draft documentation for office and card productions procedures and maintain agreements between university departments and between the university and outside business entities.
  • Solid interpersonal communication skills to include verbal and written, active listening, critical thinking, and persuasiveness.
  • Solid skills to quickly evaluate issues and identify resolution.


Preferred Qualifications

  • Demonstrated background in identification card technology.
  • Experience in an university setting.

Under California law, the University of California, Berkeley is required to provide a reasonable estimate of the compensation range for this role and should not offer a salary outside of the range posted in this job announcement. This range takes into account the wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, analysis of internal equity, and other business and organizational needs. It is not typical for an individual to be offered a salary at or near the top of the range for a position. Salary offers are determined based on final candidate qualifications and experience.

The budgeted hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position is $27.19/hr - $31.16/hr, commensurate with experience.
