Departmental Overview

This position is a temporary, part-time, entry-level position in the College of Environmental Design's Digital Fabrication Lab (DFL). The position requires some knowledge of appropriate CAD/CAM processes, techniques, materials (wood, paper, plastic, metal) and equipment (laser and blade cutters, CNC, metal mills, plastic and powder 3D printers) used in CAD/CAM settings. Under the direction of the DFL Manager or Principle Mechanician, this position will monitor DFL users and equipment, review files, and intervene when necessary to assure proper equipment use. This employee will assist with the maintenance of the Lab, equipment, and supply inventory. On an ad-hoc basis this employee may be required to present a specialty workshop or equipment orientation, may be assigned small fabrication or installation projects for the College, and must adhere to EH&S and CalOSHA compliance rules and regulations.

Required Qualifications

*Experience and skills in CAD/CAM or prototyping.
*Experience using standing and hand tools used in the course of CAD/CAM efforts.
*Experience with materials used in CAD/CAM or prototyping efforts.
*Abilities to consult and advise on instructional or research activities.
*Ability to read, write and follow oral/written instructions provided in English.
*Must be willing to support and actively contribute to a highly collaborative team environment.
*Must have a proper customer-service attitude.
*Availability on weekends, holidays and emergencies.
*Must be able to access work sites including heights, confined spaces; walk and stand for extended periods; lift up to 50 lbs with assistance from equipment.
*Strong interpersonal skills including sensitivity, tact and diplomacy.
*Incumbent must possess a high level of motivation and initiative.
*Attend training as required to maintain or expand skills.
