Position Summary

The Offset Press/Bindery Technician effectively operates two color offset printing presses in accordance with manufacturer's and departmental procedures to produce quality output while maintaining brand standards, color and quality consistency. Read, understand, and execute specifications on job tickets. Apply craft knowledge and experience to required job duties. Operate and maintain CTP. Work in bindery, performing cutting, scoring, folding, mounting, and laminating. Operate ink jet addressing system and inserter.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • In accordance with industry and university standards, operate two color offset printing presses to produce quality output while maintaining color and consistency through out entire run. Minimize waste and assure matching of PMS colors and branding guidelines. Maintain 2 color offset presses in accordance with manufacturers standards. Read and understand job tickets. Use computer to plate system to image and process printing plates.
  • Perform bindery functions related to digital, offset and wide format printing, including operation of folders, paper cutters, score machine, inserter, ink jet addressing machine, laminator, and related machinery in accordance with industry and university standards.
  • Perform other duties and assist with projects as assigned.


Minimum Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • 3-5 years offset press operation and related knowledge of print processes, ink formulations, and print related processes. Knowledge of paper folders, and related print finishing equipment. Basic knowledge of wide format finishing.
  • Ability to read and comprehend specific detailed instructions related to job specifications. Mechanically inclined with the ability to troubleshoot operational problems with equipment and run-ability of paper.
  • Equipment knowledge: Offset printing press, paper cutter, paper folder, laminator, inserter, and inkjet addressing system.


Preferred Qualifications

  • Knowledge of digital and offset print finishing and wide format print and finishing processes.


Physical Requirements and/or Unusual Work Hours

  • Ability to lift and maneuver paper with weight up to 50 pounds and stand while operating printing press.
