Installs, configures, documents and trouble-shoots voice and data communications systems and facilities to meet the University’s needs in accordance with current University standards. Works with Communication Systems Engineers and technicians to develop designs and standards in support of new technologies. This includes oversight of cable plant installation and maintenance as well as communications equipment configuration, deployment and maintenance, supporting wide area and local area networks, telephone and data equipment systems.
Supervises and trains electricians and student assistants to install and maintain communication systems and networks. This supervision includes the selection of personnel involving interviewing, hiring, evaluating, promoting and terminating individuals. It also includes planning, assigning, supervising and reviewing the work done by these individuals.
Assists in the development of cabling and equipment standards, installation, testing and documenting procedures. Responsible for the procurement of cabling materials and tools necessary to perform installations and repairs.
