Position Summary
The Vice President and CIO ( VPCIO) invites applications for the Director of Human Resources/Unit Diversity Officer position. In this role, you will plan, coordinate, and manage all human resource related functions for the division. Your leadership will set a high standard of vision and direction for the division’s human resources, diversity and inclusion efforts and be responsible for developing and executing a progressive talent strategy in alignment with the vision, values, and guiding principles of the university and in support of its overall strategic direction of the division. Your contributions will further a more diverse, inclusive, accessible and supportive environment in VPCIO.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Serve as the Unit Diversity Officer and foster inclusive excellence for faculty, staff and students
- Create and implement strategies and be accountable for recruiting candidates that reflect UB’s diverse population
- Workforce planning, position classification and talent acquisition
- Coordinate all aspects of the onboarding process for new staff and professional development and training in support of retention of all staff
- Partner with the University’s central Human Resources team to manage and serve as the point of contact for recruitment and HR paperwork processing for the division
- Ensure compliance with federal/state laws and regulations, union contracts, and university policies
- Manage performance, employee relations, and policy creation/implementation

Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree with 5 years of experience or master’s degree or professional certification with 3 years of experience supervising in human resources, preferably in higher education or the public sector. Working knowledge of one or more human resource functional areas, preferably employment, classification, or employee relations.
- Demonstrates knowledge of and shows respect and sensitivity for cultural differences; educates others on the value of diversity; promotes a harassment-free environment; builds and cultivates a diverse workforce.
- Excellent interpersonal skills; ability to build and maintain cooperative working relationships at all levels in the organization.
- Ability to balance sensitivity with efficiency, and attention to detail with the big picture
- Excellent customer service skills
- Demonstrated motivational skills to resolve conflict
- Demonstrated effective supervisory, interpersonal and leadership skills; ability to work independently with little direction
Preferred Qualifications
- Advanced degree preferred
- Working within a union HR environment preferred
- Previous experience working in HR at UB or another SUNY institution preferred
