Job Summary:
Under the general supervision of the Associate Dean for Social Sciences, the Program Manager of the MA in International Studies is responsible for the administration of the graduate program. In consultation with the Department Chair, Graduate Director, and faculty, the Program Manager will also work to maintain, improve and create new program initiatives.

Full Job Description:

Essential Job Responsibilities
  • Manage and support the efficient operation of the graduate office and activities for the International Studies Department;
  • Supervise the application process and the communication of final decisions regarding application to the program;
  • Oversee the orientation program for new students, meeting with each individually to assess any needs or problems;
  • Manage alumni tracking and alumni services for the program in collaboration with the Office of Alumni Relations;
  • Coordinate with the Chair and Graduate Director, as well as the Director of Graduate Programs for the College of Arts and Sciences, on branding strategy and related marketing activities both inside and outside the university;
  • Create and maintain an internship database for graduate students, in conjunction with the internship database maintained for undergraduate students. Schedule appointments for all graduate students to discuss internships and actively work with them to facilitate their needs;
  • Create, establish, and maintain relationships with internship organizations;
  • Monitor academic progress of all students and flag any issues to the Graduate Director;
  • Administer the capstone advising and capstone reading process, scheduling readers for each project and tracking the progress of capstones towards the final approval for the degree. Undertake an audit of remaining capstones (delete: theses) annually and prepare a report to the Graduate Director;
  • Process Notice to Post degrees for all graduating students;
  • Support the Chair, Graduate Director, and designated faculty in setting up and tracking assessment tools and generally facilitating the assessment of the program;
  • Provide, in conjunction with the Program Assistants, administrative support for student-centered events, academic symposia and related activities;
  • Maintain and develop websites, newsletters and other communications media for the department;
  • Assist with tracking program expenditures;
  • Create and maintain database of competitor programs to assist with branding, marketing, and curriculum development;
  • Work in collaboration with the Chair, Graduate Director, and Program Assistant to provide assistance and support to faculty (full and part time);
  • Represent the program at graduate school fairs;
  • Special projects and other duties as assigned.

Minimum Requirements
  • Bachelor's Degree in relevant area. Master's degree or extended professional experience in the field of international studies, student affairs, or related field strongly preferred
  • Experience supporting professional or graduate educational programs preferred.
  • Demonstrated cultural competency and experience working with students from a diverse array of backgrounds, including experience working with international students. Familiarity with immigration regulations concerning foreign students desirable.
  • Experience with strategic branding, national, and international marketing.
  • Demonstrated success in overseeing complex administrative systems and the ability to interact with a variety of different administrative departments.
  • Ability to understand and maintain budgets.
  • Excellent interpersonal and written communication skills, including through the use of social media.
  • Excellent computer skills (word processing, database and web maintenance skills).
  • Ability to travel to recruitment fairs and to work in the evenings if required to service graduate student events.

Additional Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Ability to spearhead large projects and see them through to completion.
  • Experience collaborating across departments/programs.
  • Demonstrated leadership in a higher education setting.
  • Familiarity or fluency in a foreign language.
