Four or more years of farm equipment repairing skills on tractors, trucks,mowers, and implements.Experience/Training in electrical and brake systems, fuel systems, large and small engines, transmission(manual and automatic)is desired.

Primary Purpose of Position
This position is a supporting mechanic slot to assist the lead shop mechanic/coordinator with the preventive maintenance ,maintenance and repairs for all the university farm’s equipment, implements and motor vehicle fleet.
Primary Function of Organizational Unit
The University Farm is a vital component of the School of Agriculture and Environmental Sciences, which is the oldest academic unit at North Carolina A&T State University. The primary purpose of the farm is to provide resources in the form of land, animals, water, personnel, expertise, equipment and facilities to researchers conducting studies in agriculture and serve as an outdoor laboratory for related classes. The University farm is a 567 acre unit owned by the university with 14 permanent employees, 2 temporary employees and numerous student employees, annually and seasonal.
The farm annually serves approximately 25 scientists from A&T, and 4 to 6 scientists from surrounding universities, encompassing studies in crops, animals aquaculture, organics, soils and pesticides. To further facilitate these studies, the farm is divided into six different units, with each having a coordinator and staff or student labor to orchestra given protocols. These units are: swine, beef cow, dairy, poultry, small ruminant, field crops & demonstration and environmental studies. Each of these areas is an intricate part of interdisciplinary studies at the university and in the School of Agriculture and Environmental Sciences. The units are use weekly by these agriculture and related classes during the semester for their practical, hands on experience and laboratory exercises. The farm is within 3 miles of the main campus, thus providing easy access to instructors, classes, as well as graduate and under graduate students conducting continual education studies.
The University farm is also a major community outreach source for the SEAS and the university. Annually held at the farm is the " Discover Agriculture Tours" ,which educate ,entertain and give hands on experience to more than 4000 regional grade school students from the month of March to June. The farm further adds to the Small Farms Week celebration, by putting on an annual farm show. Now going into its’ third year, the show is providing the atmosphere for farmers to meet technology, research, demonstration and education all in one day at one place. The farm also serves the public in annual field days, animal days, instructional workshops and training session for farmers, scientist, Agricultural Extension agents and the general public
