Position Summary

The School of Nursing Assistant Director of Communications and Alumni Engagement will be responsible for supporting the overall alumni engagement, events, and marketing and communications strategies and activities of the School of Nursing (UBSON). Responsibilities will focus on engaging UB graduates, students and faculty with the goal of building and sustaining meaningful relationships with alumni.

    • Create and implement an evolving alumni strategic plan that aligns with the School of Nursing’s mission and vision and supports marketing and communications efforts.
    • Develop and disseminate School of Nursing communications, including newsletters, articles, magazines, website, event collateral and social media/digital display management.
    • Create communications and activities that encourage engagement and build relationships with alumni, students, faculty, friends and community partners.
    • Serve as school’s alumni engagement officer and coordinate efforts with UB’s central Office of Alumni Engagement and various campus partners.
    • Manage the coordination and logistical planning of School of Nursing alumni engagement and special events (from conception to completion), including venue research and catering details, speaker interviews, event registration, alumni and student volunteer recruitment, invitations, onsite event management and post-event wrap-up and analysis.
    • Steward alumni and other areas of the UBSON website, including content creation that aligns with UB branding, accessibility and SEO standards.
    • Capture and maintain UBSON alumni and student engagement activity and information within the university-wide alumni database.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree required.
  • Minimum two years professional experience in communications or related field.
  • Proficiency with CRM, alumni database or similar system; proficiency using email automation systems.
  • Experience using content management systems for website building and stewardship.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including professional experience creating effective persuasive communications.
  • Experience developing, executing and evaluating communication plans.
  • Ability to multi-task and prioritize work while maintaining high standards and quality.
  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office computer software applications (e.g., Word, Excel, PowerPoint )

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, including the ability to interact with a wide range of individuals and organizations.
  • Familiarity with AP style.
  • Knowledge of alumni engagement strategies and emerging trends.
  • Working knowledge of Adobe Illustrator or Photoshop.
  • Photography skills.
  • Experience using digital display programs such as RiseVision or Visix.
