WORK LOCATION: Sponsored Programs and Intellectual Property Office, LSU AgCenter, Baton Rouge, LA. LSU Agricultural Center administrative offices in Efferson Hall, Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Travel to other locations may be required on occasion.
POSITION DESCRIPTION: The candidate will be responsible for coordination of the agreement process under direction of the Director of Sponsored Programs and Intellectual Property. Although reporting directly to the Director at the LSU Agricultural Center, the candidate will also be responsible for assisting other LSU campuses focused on life/health sciences with the administration of the agreement process. Agreement types include non-disclosure, materials transfer, technology licenses and option agreements, sponsored research agreements related to technology transfer, and other agreements related to technology transfer. Responsibilities include coordination with professional staff among campuses for preparation of agreements, coordination of signatures, correspondence with outside parties, entry of records into database, preparing database reports, and tracking agreement compliance. The candidate will be responsible for assisting with administration of the university patent portfolio, including scheduling of legal counsel and payment of invoices for legal services, tracking filing dates and deadlines, and ensuring payment of maintenance fees and annuities, and compliance with federal reporting requirements. The candidate will also be expected to ensure that all work is accurate and completed in a timely manner, and the results are reported in the appropriate format. The candidate may be required to train graduate students, student workers on proper use of office equipment and office procedures.
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: A Baccalaureate degree, at least 5 years of experience as a paralegal or in a closely related field. Experience with database administration, particularly Wellspring’s Sophia, Agreement drafting, Experience in a university/state administrative office are desired.
