Departmental Overview

The Department of Intercollegiate Athletics consists of more than 275 staff members and coaches and sponsors 30 varsity sports programs. These 30 programs include more than 850 student-athletes who participate in the various sports programs annually within the National Collegiate Athletics Association (NCAA). We are currently seeking a candidate with extensive college football experience who will work within the department's football recruiting department.

Description of Position:

The Director of Scouting will serve as the primary evaluator for all prospective student-athletes in the sport of football. This role will support the recruiting efforts of 11 full time coaches throughout all phases of the recruitment process. This position oversees all gathering of prospect evaluation information, assisting with development of Football recruiting strategies, and will create/implement standardized systems for prospect evaluation to be utilized by the entire football staff.

Responsibilities

  • Develop key systems related to prospect film management and establish consistent metrics for staff evaluation purposes.
  • Assist coaching staff with evaluation of prospective student-athletes and provide position specific reports to the football coaching staff.
  • Assist recruiting staff with outreach to prospective student-athletes on behalf of Cal Football.
  • Establish relationships through consistent communication with key high school and junior college coaching staffs contacts.
  • Supervise student assistants in support of prospect film acquisition and administrative reporting assistance.
  • Assist with hosting unofficial and official visits.
  • Ensure all activities are compliant with NCAA rules and regulations in conjunction with our Compliance Recruitment & Eligibility Coordinator.


Required Qualifications

  • Knowledge of and ability to use scouting service reports and web-based recruiting content to evaluate prospects and their fit within the Football program.
  • Demonstrated strong interpersonal and relationship building skills.
  • Demonstrated experience preparing and managing mailing campaigns.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Prior work experience at a Division I Power 5 Football program.
  • Ability to solve problems, multi-task, work with frequent interruptions, and listen effectively.
  • Proficient in use of FileMaker, Microsoft Office (Excel, Word), and common desktop/web applications.
  • Working knowledge of current social media sites (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, etc.).
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality.


Education/Training:

  • Bachelor's Degree and/or equivalent experience/training.


Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working with the Jumpforward recruiting database and working knowledge of prospect film services such as "Hudl" and XOS film systems.

Under California law, the University of California, Berkeley is required to provide a reasonable estimate of the compensation range for this role and should not offer a salary outside of the range posted in this job announcement. This range takes into account the wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, analysis of internal equity, and other business and organizational needs. It is not typical for an individual to be offered a salary at or near the top of the range for a position. Salary offers are determined based on final candidate qualifications and experience.

The budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position is $85,000.00 - $95,000.00.

  • This is a 12-month, 100%, full-time (40 hours per week), contract position that is eligible for full UC benefits with the possibility of extension.
  • This position is exempt and paid monthly.
