The mission of the Jean Mayer USDA Human Nutrition Research Center on Aging at Tufts University (HNRCA) is to promote healthy aging through nutrition science to empower people seeking to enjoy long, active, and independent lives. HNRCA investigators conduct the world's most advanced studies on nutrition and aging. The research focuses on determining dietary patterns and physical activity requirements necessary to promote well-being for older adults. HNRCA scientists examine how nutrition and physical activity play a major role in the prevention of the major chronic degenerative conditions and diseases associated with aging.

The HNRCA is collaboratively managed by Tufts University and the USDA’s Agricultural Research Service (USDA/ARS) through multiple cooperative agreements. Located adjacent to the Tufts University Health Sciences campus in Boston, Massachusetts, the HNRCA is one of six human nutrition research centers in the United States supported by the USDA/ARS and the only one focused on aging.

What You'll Do

The Communications Specialist executes communications strategies that promote the goals and mission of the department, school or division.  S/he develops high-quality, effective print materials and messaging, including researching and writing effective communications pieces.  S/he creates design and layout of publications, researches, recommends, and implements communications and marketing projects and strategies, develops design and content for website, and develops content and strategies for social media communications.  This individual evaluates and reports on effectiveness of communications strategies and recommends changes or improvements.  S/he monitors budgets, provides guidance to support staff, students and temporary workers and coordinates work with outside vendors and consultants on projects.

What We're Looking For

Researches and writes high-quality, effective communications materials which support communications     projects and strategies for school/division

Creates design and layout of publications which reinforce brand and message strategy

Develops design and content for website; maintains compelling website appeal and works with web     developer on enhancements

Develops content for social media communications; evaluates effectiveness and makes       recommendations for improvements and new initiatives

Prepares and present reports on overall communications strategies; evaluates results and recommend     changes or new initiatives

•  May provide guidance to support staff, students, and temporary workers


Minimum Required Experience, Education, Background, And Certifications/Licenses


Bachelor’s degree in related area of study or equivalent and 3 - 5 years of professional communications experience. 


Additional Preferred Experience, Education, etc.


Advanced degree and experience in education or non-profit setting preferred.
