Overview

The Research Administration is the administrative nucleus for all research activities at the Tufts University School of Dental Medicine. Within this structure, the Division of Craniofacial and Molecular Genetics performs research focusing on the development and regeneration of craniofacial and skeletal mineralized tissue development, disease and regeneration. Zebrafish models for human genetic diseases are used to elucidate molecular signals regulating craniofacial, skeletal and tooth development as a means to improve clinical applications for repair and regeneration of craniofacial and dental tissues in humans.


What You'll Do

Research Technician needed in Yelick Tufts Boston Zebrafish lab to pursue studies on zebrafish models for human genetic craniofacial and skeletal diseases. Under the close supervision of the Primary Investigator Dr. Yelick, Assistant Professors, Postdoctoral Fellows and Graduate Students, the successful candidate will investigate molecular signaling pathways in craniofacial and skeletal development and disease using zebrafish models and craniofacial stem cells. Minimum of 1 year of wet lab bench (academic or industry) experience preferred. The Yelick Lab is located on the Boston Tufts Medical Campus.

 

Job Responsibilities:

  • Zebrafish breeding, screening and genotyping (PCR, gel electrophoresis).
  • Basic bench techniques including solution preparation, Molecular biology techniques – DNA, RNA isolation, Histology and Immunohistochemistry, paraffin/OCT embedding, sectioning, staining, Genome editing techniques, Single cell embryo microinjection.
  • Brightfield and fluorescent imaging on whole mount fixed, live, confocal and tissue sections.
  • Preparing and analysis of bulk and single-cell sequencing samples.
  • Basic laboratory tasks, ordering supplies, ensuring that safe laboratory practices are followed, use and disposal of chemicals and hazardous materials.
  • Experience with zebrafish, tissue culture, molecular biology, imaging, excel, Word are highly desired.
  • Motivated, detail oriented, organized individuals are encouraged to apply.


What We're Looking For

Basic Requirements:

  • Recent Bachelor’s degree in Biology, Biochemistry, Developmental Biology, Genetics or related field

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Prior laboratory experience and knowledge of zebrafish development, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Adobe Photoshop.
  • At least a two-year commitment preferred due to the substantial training effort associated with the position
  • Demonstrated high organizational skills and ability to pay close attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently and motivation to learn and grow in their scientific expertise.
  • Ability to manage work with minimal supervision once trained.
  • Ability to trouble-shoot technical issues, and to ask for help when needed
  • Strong communication and presentation skills.
  • Ability to multi-task and work on multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Ability to plan and prioritize work while responding flexibly to rapidly changing priorities.
  • Ability to work flexible hours to a certain extent to accommodate experiments
  • This position may require standing or sitting for long periods of time, including in a warm aquarium environment.
