Position Summary
The University at Buffalo, Department of Ophthalmology is seeking a Senior Research Support Specialist to assist with a variety of research projects. The Senior Research Support Specialist will personally participate in assigned scientific research projects. For more information outlining the specific research in the laboratory please visit our website. Candidate will plan, organize and carry out experimental protocols. General lab duties will include (but not be limited to):

Lab and equipment maintenance (restocking, making reagents, dishes, autoclaving, scheduling equipment, data backups)
Data analysis
Writing laboratory protocols
Managing laboratory databases
RNA and DNA purification
Keeping the lab in a neat condition.

In this position, you will compile, write and submit research results to supervisor (at least weekly).

Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Biochemistry, Cell Biology, Biology, Chemist or related field.
Candidate must be detail oriented, willing to learn and display strong communication and observation skills.
Must have excellent time management skills.

Preferred Qualifications
Master’s degree with experience in modern molecular biology (next generation sequencing library preparation, PCR, RT-PCR, agarose gel electrophoresis), cell biology ((light microscopy, immunohistochemistry, fluorescence/ confocal microscopy), biochemistry (western blot) and mammalian cell culture methods.
Experience with biological specimens like blood, serum, saliva, tissues biopsies.
Previous experience in statistical analysis of scientific datasets and plotting graphs utilizing online database searches, IPA software, R studio, etc.
Candidate should be able to plan well, be willing to learn and help others, and have the ability to maintain focus, work as a team member and independently as well.
