This position is located within the Facilities Department at the University. The incumbent of this position will be responsible for diagnosing and repairing defects in vehicles and other motorized equipment. The responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:

  • Overhaul, adjust, and repair gasoline, compressed natural gas, and diesel engines; clutches; transmissions; differentials; ignition, electrical, lighting, fuel, cooling, braking, and complex hydraulic systems; steering, wheel & suspension mechanisms; body & frame components.
  • Conduct NYS inspections on light and heavy-duty vehicles.
  • Diagnose and repair small engines, material spreaders, mowers and a variety of other equipment, including but not limited to track vehicles, snowplows, loaders, tractors, garbage packers, forklifts, generator sets, and aerial bucket trucks.
  • Diagnose and repair electronic engine controls and anti-lock brake systems.
  • Diagnose and repair air conditioning systems.
    Candidates must possess the following:
  • A NYS DMV inspector certification for groups 1 & 2 vehicles is required.
  • Refrigerant recycling & service procedures certification is also required.
  • A valid minimum class B New York State Commercial Driver’s License with Tow Truck endorsement. The license must not have an air brake restriction.

This position is defined as safety-sensitive, and as such, is subject to alcohol and drug testing under the Omnibus Transportation Employee Testing Act of 1991.

Successful candidates in the position must be able to effectively communicate with co-workers, supervisors and the campus community. This position may require you to work in a team so the candidate should have strong interpersonal and teamwork skills. The candidate must possess and have proven positive customer service skills; must also possess good listening skills and be able to understand and follow written and/or oral instructions. Since the activities of other employees depend upon the availability of the employee in this position, reliable attendance is a factor that will be considered when filling this vacancy.
