Departmental Overview

The Division of Student Affairs is the gateway to the student experience. From recruiting to enrolling, to nourishing and housing, to leadership and engagement opportunities - we put UC Berkeley's students first. By offering comprehensive programs and services that support our students' academic and personal goals, we can offer an equity of experience for all students that promotes access, service, and engagement for each member of our community. The Student Leadership and Engagement team within Dean of Students portfolio is at the center of student life at UC Berkeley. It is the campus unit primarily responsible for encouraging student invovlement and faciltating leadership development opportunities.It serves a critical role in providing administrative, programmatic, and advising support to many student communities, including aproximately 1,200+ registered and sponsored student organizations, bridges Multicultural Resource Center, Queer Alliance Resource Center, student government, and student leadership programs.

Responsibilities

  • Design and Implement Leadership trainings and workshops to support diverse student constituencies.
  • Leads and facilitates leadership development programs and workshops for student organizations and student government.
  • Researches and summarizes best practices for leadership programs and student engagement strategies.
  • Participates on planning committees and working groups that include students, staff, administrators and faculty.
  • Conducts stakeholder analysis and facilitates decision-making and sustainable agreements across stakeholder groups.
  • Makes high level contacts of a sensitive nature across campus stakeholders, requiring discretion and diplomacy in order to negotiate with campus administrators and student leaders.
  • Collaborates with departments such as Student Organization Advising, Student Government Advising, New Student Services, bridges Multicultural Resources Center, and Queer Alliance and Resource Center to coordinate trainings for student leaders.


Required Qualifications

  • Strong facilitation skills.
  • Knowledge of student advising strategies and leadership development programs.
  • Strong analytical/problem-solving skills.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills to communicate effectively with all levels of staff and student leaders and influence, both verbally and in writing.
  • Exceptional political acumen skills.
  • Ability to use discretion and maintain all confidentiality.
  • Strong skills in working with diverse communities.
  • Strong organization skills, with the ability to be detail oriented.
  • Ability to prioritize competing demands and to manage ambiguity.
  • Intermediate to advanced knowledge of Google and Microsoft office suites.
  • Mid-level project management skills.


Education/Training:

  • Bachelor's degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training.

Under California law, the University of California, Berkeley is required to provide a reasonable estimate of the compensation range for this role and should not offer a salary outside of the range posted in this job announcement. This range takes into account the wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, analysis of internal equity, and other business and organizational needs. It is not typical for an individual to be offered a salary at or near the top of the range for a position. Salary offers are determined based on final candidate qualifications and experience.

The budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position is $90,000.00 - $97,400.00.

  • This is a 100%, full-time (40 hours per week), career position that is eligible for full UC benefits.
  • This position is exempt and paid monthly.
  • This is a hybrid position, eligible for up to 40% remote capability.
