Position Summary

The University at Buffalo Libraries seek a Library Systems Analyst to provide expertise related to library systems, technologies, software, and hardware. The Library Systems Analyst ensures that services meet coding and quality standards and oversees the quality, accessibility, security and stability of the Libraries’ web presence.

Primary duties will include:
    • Deploying, upgrading, documenting, troubleshooting, monitoring, securing, optimizing, testing, and maintaining the libraries’ virtual servers.
    • Adding URLs to the proxy server as needed and working with the E-Resources team to ensure all URLs are up to date.
    • Creating and maintaining in-house database-driven websites that sustain and/or deliver library-related content.
    • Monitoring and optimizing database and digital asset management system performance to ensure fast access and retrieval of assets while maintaining data integrity and security.
    • Protecting the libraries and larger university infrastructure from attacks and vulnerabilities.
    • Planning and implementing systems support for digital strategies initiatives.
    • Maintaining secure access and authentication to university and hosted solutions and systems.
    • Assisting with designing, developing, and implementing a digital asset management system using programming languages and frameworks.
    • Assisting in the migration of library.buffalo.edu webpages to the UBCMS.

Minimum Qualifications

  • A bachelor’s degree in computer science, software engineering, information technology or a related area and two years of relevant experience. A combination of education and experience may be considered in lieu of the education requirement.
  • Experience with installation, configuration and administration of Windows, or Linux/Unix Operating Systems
  • Understanding of information architecture concepts and practices.
  • Understanding of firewalls, antivirus servers and backup solutions along with functional awareness of system and network monitoring applications such as Splunk.
  • Demonstrable understanding of basic server administration and best practices.
  • Experience with relational database systems such as MySQL, Oracle, Python, JavaScript, and RESTful web service APIs.
  • Experience in evaluating, implementing, and maintaining open source and proprietary software.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills required.
  • Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion with the ability to support and enhance a diverse learning and working environment.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Knowledge of complex research materials, such as databases, born digital formats, web archives, and media files, especially audio and video.
  • Demonstrated experience in developing and/or implementing database-driven Web applications, using ASP or PHP.
  • Knowledge of research design and implementation of library technology initiatives such as Web 2.0 applications and other innovative technology projects.
  • Knowledge of Web technologies, standards, and software; operating systems; library information technology standards and protocols; proxy servers and remote patron authentication; database design, administration, and reporting; common programming and scripting languages; IR systems; software development projects; media asset management systems; and metadata standards.
  • Experience with repository systems such as Dryad or DSpace.
