Tufts Hillel is a private, not-for-profit organization that serves as the center for Jewish campus life at Tufts University.  Recognized for its innovative approaches to engaging students in meaningful Jewish experiences, Tufts Hillel serves all Tufts students through community service projects, social events, social justice programs, learning and religious activities.  

The development team has a dual reporting relationship to Hillel and Tufts University Advancement. As such, team members enjoy the benefits inherent in working in a small non-profit organization as well as the considerable resources and collaboration opportunities provided by a large development shop.

The Development Coordinator is an integral member of the 2-person development team responsible for raising significant philanthropic resources necessary to meet Tufts Hillel’s funding needs. This position offers a terrific opportunity to learn direct fundraising skills and serve as the first step in a development caree

What You'll Do

In addition to providing administrative support, which includes activities such as: creating weekly gift acknowledgements, reconciling the development budget, troubleshooting problems, reporting in a complex database, and ordering supplies, the Development Coordinator will coordinate Hillel’s direct mail and email fundraising and stewardship initiatives and be responsible for Hillel’s Tufts Giving Tuesday program and young alumni engagement efforts and conduct personal cultivation and solicitation activities with specific donor and prospect cohorts.


With the option to presently work in a hybrid environment, as part of their responsibilities, the Development Coordinator will interact frequently with members of the Tufts University Advancement team, Hillel staff, students, donors, and vendors.  They will routinely work with confidential information – including donor financial and personal information - and will need to exercise discretion at all times.  The position relies on effective interpersonal skills, strong verbal and written communications skills and the experience and judgment to plan and execute complex projects.  A wide degree of creativity and initiative is expected.   This is an excellent opportunity to learn essential fundraising skills and directly contribute to the success of a small, vibrant organization with the resources and support of a premier university. 

What We're Looking For

Basic Requirements:

Knowledge and experience typically acquired by:

  • High school diploma and 5+ years of administrative experience or a bachelor's degree and 3+ years of experience.
  • Possess working knowledge of Microsoft Office suite including Word and Excel, as well as database knowledge.
  • Demonstratable ability to manage concurrent activities, work under pressure and be adaptable to changing priorities.
  • Interest in philanthropy and advancing the Tufts Hillel mission.     

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of the Jewish community and Jewish practices.

Special Work Schedule Requirements:
Occasional evening or weekend work.  Flex work assignment: Hybrid
