Tisch Library supports Tufts’ School of Arts & Sciences and the School of Engineering, providing the services and resources to assist members of the Tufts community in their teaching, learning and research. Tisch Library provides collections, expertise, and technology-rich environments to support the creation and dissemination of scholarship. The Access Services Department ensures timely and effective access to library facilities and collections through its circulation, reserves, interlibrary loan and stack management services; provides basic reference services; and supports the printing/copying/scanning needs of library patrons.

What You'll Do

The Senior Library Assistant, Interlibrary Loan, provides research materials to the Tufts community by facilitating borrowing from other libraries, and supplying items held by the Tisch Library to other libraries around the world.  Responsibilities include:

  • Provide outstanding customer service to inquiries made by Tufts patrons and from other institutions.
  • Process lending, borrowing and Scan & Deliver requests using OCLC, ILLiad and Ex Libris systems; troubleshoot problems. Maintain and modify workflows and documentation as needed.
  • Train and supervise student assistants.
  • Evaluate new document delivery technologies as they are developed and incorporate them as appropriate.
  • Assist with the lending and borrowing billing for the Resource Sharing department. Serve on information desk as needed.

What We're Looking For

Basic Requirements:

  • Associate's degree
  • 3-5 years related experience
  • Strong organizational, interpersonal and customer service skills, accuracy and attention to detail
  • Good research and problem-solving skills

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree
  • Knowledge and experience with library resource sharing tools such as Alma, OCLC, ILLiad, and Rapid
  • Familiarity with fair use, copyright, and best practices in resource sharing
