Departmental Overview

Cal Recreational Sports is dedicated to enhancing the knowledge, wellness, fitness and quality of life for students, faculty, staff and the community. In addition to the 27 sport clubs and 600 intramural sports teams, the department offers a wide range of recreational activities and state of the art equipment, including a complete package of fitness activities, from individual and group classes to massage therapy and personal training.

Responsibilities

  • Provides activity instruction to program participants, individually or in groups, in person or virtually.
  • Maintains a supportive environment for program participants and facilitates involvement.
  • Interacts with recreational program participants in a positive manner.
  • Broadens knowledge of teaching methods, techniques and skills through continuing education.
  • Participates in required professional development activities.
  • Perform administrative duties that may include virtual class hosting or assistance with program operations.


Required Qualifications

  • Working knowledge of program activity practices and procedures.
  • Verbal and written communication skills in the English language, active listening, critical thinking, multi-tasking, time management skills, and dynamic flexibility in adapting to the needs of clients.
  • Ability to exercise independent sound judgment and employ reasoning skills.
  • Client service minded, entrepreneurial spirit and creative thinking skills.
  • Basic skills in computer programs relevant to job duties.
  • Knowledge of and/or ability to learn campus policies and procedures.


Education

  • High school diploma and / or equivalent certification / experience / training.


Licenses / Certifications

  • Current, nationally recognized fitness certification.


Preferred Qualifications

Licenses / Certifications

  • Certification to instruct in the applicable recreational sports program or equivalent experience preferred.
  • Standard First Aid Training Certification preferred.


Salary & Benefits

  • This is a 12 month, part-time position, hours will vary depending on teaching schedule, with a maximum of 30% or 12-hours per week.
  • This is a contract (temporary) appointment.
  • This position is a non-exempt, bi-weekly paid position. Hourly pay for this role is commensurate with experience within the range of $16.99 - $55.00.

  • This is a remote-friendly position, eligible for 100% remote capability.
