JOB DESCRIPTION SUMMARY
Staff Accountant - 15 hours/week, On-Site
Supervisor: Assistant / Associate Controller

The staff accountant is responsible for assisting with the design, implementation, and performance of regular internal audits of expense transactions and for supporting the overall University control environment. The staff accountant will also assist with account reconciliations and journal entries, audit and financial statement preparation, and tax preparation.

JOB DESCRIPTION

Essential Functions

1. Internal Audits (75 percent of time):

  • Design, implement, and perform regular internal audits of expense transactions to ensure accuracy and compliance with institutional policies
  • Assist with the development and maintenance of internal control processes and procedures
  • Collaborate with departments to strengthen internal controls documentation to support audits and financial reporting
  • Perform internal control testing, identify any noncompliance or risks of noncompliance, and propose remediation
  • Assist with outsourced third party audits and remediation of any audit findings


2. Account Reconciliations, Journal Entries, Audit and Financial Statement Preparation, and Tax Preparation (25 percent of time):

  • Assist with account reconciliations and analyses of various balance sheet accounts, including cash accounts
  • Prepare adjusting journal entries as part of general campus accounting support
  • Assist in preparing audit schedules and support year end close activities
  • Assist in preparing various schedules for the organization's annual tax return
  • Assist in gathering data for annual survey completion
  • Cross train on and assist the Senior Accountant with fixed asset management during periods of absence
  • Performs all other duties and responsibilities as assigned or directed by supervisor.


Qualifications

  • Four year bachelor's degree in Accounting or Business preferred
  • Exposure to internal audit preferred
  • Excel proficiency required
  • Strong data processing and data manipulation skills required


The hourly rate for this position is between $25 and $30 per hour, depending on experience, and approximately 15-hours per week.
