Position Summary
The School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences (SPPS) is seeking a Research Administrator to manage research administration activities in support of the faculty. This is an advanced level administrative position providing operational and financial support to SPPS research enterprise. As an active member of research teams, will provide support to pre and post award activities of the School’s faculty. The Research Administrator will be part of the Office of Research Administration and report to the Associate Dean for Resource Management and work closely with the Associate Dean for Research.

Responsibilities include:

  • Provide post award management to faculty including detailed reconciliation of assigned project budget with consideration for allocability and allowability of charges; perform PI account reconciliations to ensure all personnel and OTPS needed can continue to be covered by the award; monitor end dates for all grants falling under your PI portfolio; track PI effort; coordinate with principle investigators to ensure compliance with grant guidelines and effect changes as required; manage budget, reporting and compliance timelines through the lifecycle of the grant or contract.
  • Advise and assist SPPS faculty and staff with grant and/or subcontract proposals, which may include research development, review, editing, and completion of various federal and non-federal packages. Act as liaison between the faculty and Sponsored Projects Services. Develop budgets and budget justifications which include proofing the budget for inconsistencies, ensuring accuracy with budgets, obtaining SPS review and approval.
  • Oversight and management of SPPS’s Service and Facility accounts including invoicing, reconciliation, review and analyze rates and initiate recalculations when necessary.
  • Interpret and apply policies related to research awards and sponsor requirements.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • Two years professional experience in research administration (pre or post award management)
  • Strong computer skills
  • Strong interpersonal communication skills, including verbal and written, active listening and critical thinking. Ability to communicate clearly and respectfully with diverse populations including faculty, senior leadership, staff, students, alumni and guests.
  • Ability to handle restricted and sensitive information in accordance with school and university policies. Ability to maintain confidentiality, attention to detail, meet deadlines and accuracy in all areas of responsibility.
  • Possess a strong sense of accountability and be self-motivated. Must be able to work independently with minimal direction and exhibit good judgment.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in a higher education setting, working with faculty, staff and students
  • Experience in post award management
  • Experience with University at Buffalo policies and procedures.
  • Experience with University at Buffalo systems (E-Req, E-PTF, CLICK)
