The Technical Research Assistant/Associate will be responsible for conducting research in pain biology and neuroscience. The department is seeking candidates with experience pertaining to fundamental research on rodents. The position requires participation in administrative duties related to the proposed project:
- Formatting and preparation of quarterly and annual reports
- Management of laboratory supplies and workflow
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Works with rodent experimental animals in surgical and behavioral studies. Specifically, experience in microsurgery and/or nerve surgical techniques is preferred.
Assesses tissue recovered from experimental animals and analyze by immunohistochemical (IHC) staining combined with conventional and confocal epi-fluorescence microscopy. Participate in additional studies on the tissue transcriptome will include qPCR and RNAseq approaches.
Prepares quarterly scientific reports and contribute to scientific manuscripts and presentations related to the project.
Supports graduate and undergraduate students in their research related to the assigned project.
Participate in managing laboratory supplies and ordering.
Performs other related job duties as assigned by the Principal Investigator.
B.S., M.S. or Ph.D. in neuroscience, pharmacology, biology, physiology, or equivalent field. Knowledge in pain/neuroinflammation/behavior a plus.
1 – 3 years of experience conducting data analysis and manuscript preparation experience is preferred.
Prior experience with handling/surgery experience with rodents is essential.
Prior experience with rodent sciatic nerve chronic constriction and/or transection surgery combined with relevant behavioral studies is preferred.
Knowledge, skills, and abilities required for this position are as follows:
- Ability to perform animal surgery, animal behavioral analysis, and statistical comparison of data.
- Ability to perform tissue recovery and preparation for IHC and/or RNA Transcriptome analysis.
- Ability to collect data in analytical studies.
- Ability to communicate clearly in writing and verbally.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with the University Community.
